Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

All of those happened to some degree. I’m not going to obey your leaders telling me how many people I can have over for Thanksgiving
thank you kind sir for your well wishes. I am a proud Biden/Harris voter. May the next four years bring you peace and prosperity.

When I left work yesterday my hospital had 18 positive patients. When I got to work this morning we had 43, way more than we’ve ever had. 60+ positive employees out.
They tested my 23 year old pt who hanged himself. They are testing heart attack pts without any other symptoms. They test people with urinary tract infections in the absence of any respiratory problems or inflammatory markers.
Is your hospital delaying procedures for positive cases?

The Children Never Had the Coronavirus. So Why Did They Have Antibodies?

#science??

From the article:

A possible reason may be that many children already have antibodies to other coronaviruses, according to researchers at the Francis Crick Institute in London. About one in five of the colds that plague children are caused by viruses in this family. Antibodies to those viruses may also block SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus causing the pandemic.
In a study published Friday in Science, the group, led by George Kassiotis, who heads the Retroviral Immunology Laboratory at the institute, reports that on average only 5 percent of adults had these antibodies, but 43 percent of children did.
Researchers who did not participate in the study were intrigued by the finding. H. Benjamin Larman, an immunologist at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, called it a “well-done study that puts forward a compelling theory which is supported by their data.”

Very interesting. It shoots to hell something we were told from the get go:

Stephen J. Elledge, a genetics professor at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, had a similar response. He and others have found many people have antibodies to common colds caused by other coronaviruses; in laboratory studies, these antibodies also block the new coronavirus.

We were told back in February that "none of us have any natural immunity to C19." This research makes that statement a lie

Yikes. I hope everything works out ok and everyone has mild symptoms. It hit my house and so far just mild symptoms. The first night was the roughest but this is just day 3.
Glad you and yours are ok so far. Hope that continues for most.

It’s safe to say if they are admitted to our center there is nothing mild about their symptoms.

It also is another reason that children should be in school. Where did those 43% of children get the exposure to coronavirus?

These were new admits over night. We were the last hospital in our region to fill up, all the tertiary care centers are already full. Designated covid floor is full. It’s not a random testing problem, we’ve been doing that. It’s admissions with new onset symptoms.

I think we are about to shut down electives again.

Ah, so when admitted they’re pretty rough. I didn’t know if some were getting admitted due to maybe showing symptoms and having one or more of the co-morbidities we’ve all talked about or whatever. I appreciate you and your team being on the front lines fighting it. Good luck!

We're still seeing pretty low numbers of positives with ICU intervention. The new problem we are seeing is the push to anticoagulate these pts and they are going overboard. GI bleeds if they survive it is pretty common. It seems to be trending up.
