I was in school at Tennessee then. I watched the game in Kingsport TN. I actually had won the lottery to purchase tickets, but after buying the tickets, didn't have money to travel to Tempe, so I sold them to a childhood friend.

Watching the game on TV. Have a framed front page Tennessean on my wall in All Vol game room. Ready for another natty front page hanging beside that one.

I was a section over. Remember FL State fans being infuriated at us commandeering the Seminole chant. They HATED that. Before the game, some drunk, pretentious Seminole fan kept yelling "trailer trash" at us. I said, "Mam, I've never stepped foot in a trailer in my life." I lied.

The chop... my wife tried to make me stop. Just. Couldn't. Help. Myself.

19 and a sophomore in college. I'm 41, now, and fully realize that I didn't appreciate the level of success that our program experienced in the 10 years leading up to that game, nor the several years immediately following it. What a great time to be a fan. If we ever approach that level of success, again, I now know to appreciate it because it is fleeting and finishing 10-1, 9-2 certainly isn't a birthright. It can get a lot worse.

It's a shame that there is an entire generation whose most lauded UT football memory is a 9-4 Butch Jones coached team that won the Outback Bowl. By the time I was 12 years old, I had experienced the 1985 Sugar Bowl and that 9-1-2 team, and seasons of 10-2-1 (Peach), 11-1 (Cotton), 9-2-2 (Sugar), and 9-3 (Fiesta).

You still have the picture of these two from when you saw them at the FL vs UT game?

If you’re talking about Lulu and Junior, then yes.

I’ve got a picture of them at our 2003 game on a thumb drive somewhere. One of our tailgate crew found them sitting in the East stands near our student section.
