me niether. and i think we all have seen the blue print he's tried to put forth, as far as what he wants the team to look like, how they should play, and what basic "style" they should play. and it looks like the bones of what should be a solid SEC program...it really does. i've said that from the beginning, we're gonna at least "look like" an SEC team again..............

for whatever reason, his biggest issue that i can see is strictly dealing with personnel decisions, and why a kid should get PT vs. not....i think some of that is simply due to the fact that while at Bama, UGA, and FSU, you could easily tell which kids were ahead of the curve, and which ones needed development. and at those programs, they had the recent history and results that dictated how that should go. i would imagine a lot of those decisions were relatively easy, at least in comparison to our situation.

so coming in here, where in many cases there may not be many discernable differences between player 1 or player 4, you fall back on experience (your own and who's on the roster) and go with that. but there also has to be an understanding that we aren't any of those programs right now and we don't have the recent history or results that should preclude anyone from seeing some playing time....especially if you're in developmental mode.....as it most certainly appears we are, or should be.....

i think that's what i don't understand the most...just put guys in. get them in some games, put stuff on film....if this year really was a throw away year, then why wouldn't you be rotating like mad men and getting reps for a bunch of guys? it's a free year from an eligibility standpoint, so screw it......

that's what makes no sense to me. if we're playing for the future and this year is a throw away year and it doesn't matter......then personnel decisiosn should be really, really easy. but that's not what's happening and i think that's why i don't buy the notion they think this is a throw away season.

they do need to play more young guys. HB needs reps. Key Lawrence...play him somewhere.....Omari Thomas....Spraggins....among many more....

you want me to buy in....then show me that you are playing for the future....it'd make what i see on Saturdays at least a little more digestable, especially if you honestly think you have no shot at winning anything anyway. and given how JG came out and has played this year, we knew pretty darn quick that not much changed there, so our outlook on the results changed iwth that.

err'body knew that if JG was same old same old, that severely limits our ability to make any noise in the SEC. well, that's what JG is.....and if no one else can play QB....then play everone else.

i'm so sick of sucking azz.....if this year wasn't a throw away year at the beginning, it certainly is now. so if you have designs on being here next year and making a year 4 push, i'd start finding out what else i got on this roster when the lights are on.
tl;dr

bull. there was plenty of it on display last year....you don't lose to who we lost to the way we lost last season, and then reel off 8 straight wins w/out having a serious competitive streak.

hell if you're a quitter, i think right after the BYU game would have been a good spot for "i'm out, sorry".....

the revisionist history on display right now, while i understand it, is fairly ridiculous.

Yes I agree that there was plenty of fire last season, but we didn't quite have the experience... This is the year that we should be putting it all together and players/talent should be farther along and developed. No way with the talent we have that we should be blown out by anyone and never mind get beat by a KY and ARK who has MUCH less talent on their rosters. That is what is pathetic, and you can see zero drive/fire out of Pruitt this year... you can see he is just sleep walking through the season.

I want Pruitt to be successful. I think he will be.

He needs time.

I am working to change my outlook.

No sarcasm---- how and when do you think he will be successful? How will he recover from this season and all of a sudden have kids at their peak of potential and this program firing on all cylinders, working as one, with a goal to whip everyone? He's had 3 YEARS and we are regressing...Regressing-- we are performing worse this year than last year with more talent on the roster... So you think he's gonna hit the magic Men in Black reset button and magically get the locker room and staff back as one?

there's a lot that is indefensable about this season....

but on the "development" angle, there's just no way you can discount what covid cost this roster and staff on that front. this was a crucial off season for the 19 class in particular, and the incoming freshmen, even the EE's got ZERO off season....and between quarantines etc.. in fall camp....it was just a mess.

so like i said, i'm not, can't, defend a lot of what i've seen this season. and there's plenty of legit criticism to go around.

but i think things could have been a whole lot different had we just had a "normal" off season and played the original schedule.....developmentally, not doing that was a huge detriment. esepcially for the QB's.....JG and HB in particular.

There is no offset in his contract. If fired today, Pruitt gets his buyout plus any salary at his new job.

We also need to remember, I think someone brought it over already, but according to Deerpark under Tennessee law the entire amount of the buyout would need to be put into a designated fund within 30 days of the termination. Which means UT would need to have the money in hand prior to making any decision.

Maybe so, but you can't blame covid on the talent we have that came back from last season, added with the new talent this season, performing worse... you just can't. We are getting worse and beat by lesser teams... we should have gained traction and picked up where we left off and be improving as the season progresses... yet we are getting worse. Yes we lost 3 leaders in JJ, Calloway, and Warrior, but otherwise we basically have the same talent and more new talent. Don't forget everyone else has been dealing with covid too, yet they seem to be way ahead of us... sorry, you just can't use that excuse.

Honestly, I wish I knew how the players truly felt. Lots of speculation, but it's just that, speculation. Do they still believe in their coach? Do they have faith he can fix this? I just don't know how to feel any more. I want to see UT succeed. I want to win. I have no idea if Pruitt is capable of that or not. I do believe that another coaching search will lead us to a choice that not of us want, but we'll convince ourselves that whoever it is will fix everything, just as we always do. We won't get Hugh Freeze, we definitely won't get Urban Meyer(which I'm perfectly fine with), it won't be Bob Stoops or any other coach that has shown he can win. We'll get someone out of left field that will leave us scratching our heads. I'm 100% convinced of that. We've seen it happen too many times now. And each time, we just knew we were going to finally get someone better, but we didn't. We're fooling ourselves if we think the AD would bring in any of the names mentioned on this board. It's just not happening.

I want to have hope, but given what we've seen on the field since the second half of UGA, it's extremely difficult. And all the rumors that come out just compound that. What's happening at UT is a total train wreck atm, and as much as I want to look away, I can't do it. It makes me incredibly sad. Football shouldn't make me this sad, yet it does, because I bleed orange. And it makes me incredibly angry at the people who were supposed to maintain the pride and well-being of our football program, those who have driven it into the ground. Years of bad decisions have brought us to this point, and I have no faith that will change.

I should go back to my first love. But can't quit the Vols. I don't know what is going to happen. Do not think Phil will bring in Freeze but would love it if he did. I said at the beginning I would wait and see results on the field. Well, they are lacking. Also felt like Pruitt had to be able to turn it around because another failed coach would kill us for an even longer time. If we don't get freeze or someone like that, then we are stuck with this gump and we have got to hope he can keep the class and a QB that is program changing. Question is would he play the kid. I will always cheer but moving into the background rapidly. Spoke with a guy bigger than me in the scheme of things and people are pissed.
Tell him he must push for UT to #FreezeUs

What we’ve all got to realize is either something is broken at UT, OR the last 15 years are truly representative of what this program is.

We’ve been through enough athletic directors, Presidents, head coaches, coordinators, and boosters to finally understand that it’s bigger than any one person or a group of people.

Maybe we’re just a middling football program now and there’s no legitimate way out. I don’t know.

This right here! I keep thinking about how mediocre Crompton was until Kiffin simplified the offense for him and made him look much better. Simple things like understanding what plays he was comfortable with, rolling the pocket to one side, etc. There's too much experience and investment in that coaching staff to not see basic solutions being implemented. It's not that they've tried things and they haven't worked, it's that they've seemingly tried nothing!

If you want to say we had more than average difficulty in preparing for this season do to extenuating circumstances so be it. Someone please explain to me what the hell they were doing for the two weeks leading up to Ark? Same inputs, and same crappy output. It's truly remarkable to see the regression from last year to this.
1) I don't think our offense can get any simpler
2) JG can definitely not roll out and throw since he is non-moblie
Defenses love playing UT. They know we can be efficient running the ball as evident against Bama, Ark. However, we have ZERO passing game positives this year. With our running game, a competent QB would be thriving right now. We have abandoned the TE so short over the middle passes against blitzes isn't an option. We don't throw to the RB on blitzes either. Definitely have seen open WRs at different levels down the field, but JG only sees fog.
