Here's what's frightening. If Pruitt is already disliking the job and perhaps even wanting out (speculation still, but looking somewhat realistic), who's to say he doesn't subtly sabotage the program even further over the next 12 months if Fulmer doesn't fire him? He wouldn't be dumb enough to do anything to get fired for cause, but it wouldn't be hard for him to just really take it easy on the recruiting trail and further dismantle the program before getting a hero's welcome back in Tuscaloosa as their DC.
Remember, he has no loyalty to UT but extreme loyalty to his alma mater. If he's got a lame duck year and he knows he's getting fired anyway, why not torch the place that he grew up hating on his way out?
Of course, that assumes he has no desire to ever be a head coach again, as doing so would be the end of that aspiration. But it's a possibility. He may be a future Bob Shoop/Kevin Steele where he tries to be a coach once and utterly fails and goes back to where he's comfortable.
