I see this but hear me out and y’all know I am upset as well. But these players were developing and we see guys getting paid like Taylor and Kyle Phillips. But everyone has not had to deal with Covid like we did. Knox County sucks and UT was not under same rules as most of state. You can’t develop in quarantine and not even getting all your fall practices. I think we can develop but 28 days of quarantine for some. In game management can be learned but maybe we will see better development now that the dens defeated the virus the last couple of days. Maybe we will see that next year if he’s retained. I also worried that Rocker is not only missed but will continue to be. Friend just needs to be gone but we’ve seen some good stuff from the line and they may be better with a bigger back and a good QB. Maybe some hope.
I like the optimism. Unfortunately, the only positions that improved last year were mostly defensive positions and we have all new and less experienced coaches there now. We’re half way through the season and seem to look worse every game rather than better. If they were developing, we would see some improvement each game like last year. IMO of course!

All it takes is one good hire.
All it takes is for him to play the young guys. That might not solve the whole problem but it will at least get the 100s of thousands of fans to stop calling for his head. Ole boy probably feels like he’s being squeezed to death from the pressure. Mistakes happen but it can be remedied by not being so bullheaded.

Listening to the Falcons V Broncos today and they mentioned a conversation with a Broncos coach. He said their young team was really behind without the regular offseason practice and preseason games. He indicated they usually get 1400 snaps which is equivalent to a full season. Made me think, Pruitt gets a pass from UT this year for the same reason. We are a very young team with little senior leadership. Our best players for the most part are sophomores. Last year we could lean on senior leadership and could develop young players in the offseason. We have had a drop off at certain positions like receiver, linebacker, and safety and not the time and reps to fully develop the youth. I’m as pissed as anyone this year. Just thought I would share a parallel from the NFL...

Might see Vandy actually get Franklin back. If that happens, SC gets Freeze, and we get stuck with Pruitt or Coach McGoogle, then I will definitely be out until Tennessee shows we are serious about winning again.

We’d hire Franklin before he ever went back to Vandy. And I’d take Franklin in a heartbeat over our current coach, as much as I hate the guy.

EVERY TEAM DEALT WITH COVID ITS NOT AN EXCUSE. The issues with Pruitt is worse teams are beating us!

Haha don’t think Franklin takes that job again he’s seen how they send that $40M/yr on anything but athletics. But yea that would suck.

Stop making excuses
Lost to a first year coach with less talent and no spring ball

We'll drag this out for another year, hire some Saban disciple or a G5 coach, posters will go on and on about how we finally have a real football coach, we'll get our brains bashed in, and this cycle will continue in perpetuity until the sun burns out.

The accuracy hurts...

I don’t really think it’s the about not playing them. I just think in his classes his biggest misses have came at the most important positions and his biggest hits have came at some of the least important positions. For instance we have some nice players in our secondary.... doesn’t matter if you have revis and prime time back there if you have scarecrows on the DL and coming off the edge.

To me positions of value are....
Most important:
QB, Edge,OT, Interior DL...

Least important:
RB, CB, MLB....

Looking back, the GA St and BYU losses were huge red flags that we all just dismissed.
I never did. I was out at that point and cautiously got back on board with the strong close last year. Not sure he can fix this mess. I’m hoping he can because another rebuild is just exhausting

Watched the game again with some notes.

Kenneth George is terrible.
Brandon Kennedy gets out strengthened on a regular basis.
They need to find a landing spot for Weinke so we don’t have to pay the buyout. He’s a terrible coach. You have had two years with Maurer and he doesn’t even know how a pocket works. Consistently throws off his back foot with fade away throws like you’re playing backyard football. I see why the coaching staff has been saying JG gives us the best chance to win. Both Shrout and Maurer aren’t good.

I get that ultimately the buck stops with the head coach but hiring a defensive guy you kind of knew what you were getting in to. I put more of this on Chaney. He is a absolutely terrible... gets out schemed on a regular basis with absolutely no creativity in play calling.
To add to it he offers absolutely nothing to recruiting.

I cant buy that. We aren't even competitive with UK. Arky with a first year coach after going 0-20 in the SEC just beat us by 2 scores. Even our upper classmen look like they have regressed. We are not a well coached football team in any phase of the game.

I can agree with that. Deandre is not good on the edge. On the other hand Bennett has gone from players son project to a nice surprise. Drop off at safety, injuries at Star, and ineffective linebacker coverage is of concern.

I wish Pruitt would do what that coach did a couple of years ago and resign. He is a good coach, he’s just not ready to be a head coach. He could resign and go be Bama’s DC again at the end of the year and make 1 mil/year. He’d save himself a lot of stress and the stigma of being fired. Then he’d get another opportunity in a few years and maybe he’d be more prepared and do really well.

Then we could hire Freeze and we’d be back.

All I know is that this crap has turned a relatively sun shine pumper into a realist. It’s that bad.
