Not defending Pruitt but too many holes in the secondary and linebacker coverage for that matter. Warrior was experienced enough to let them do different things and the corners were playing too. Now inept safety play and no stability at nickel or corner due to injuries...I don't understand our defensive play calling either. In their first two years Pruitt and Ansley were super aggressive and loved to blitz. Now this year they barely do. Also very few line stunts and twists. In the 4th quarter the coaches got more aggressive with the play calling and we got some stops, we need to do more of that going forward.
Thats fair. Not trusting your safties is a good reason. Although that falls back onto poor coachingNot defending Pruitt but too many holes in the secondary and linebacker coverage for that matter. I think someone mentioned Key got some run in the 4th, but theo played ok. But I want to see Burrell and I want to see Slaughter at FS. I think Carvin has been banged up so he's probably not healthy enough to play.Yes! Some of these personnel decisions are baffling! Like stop playing average seniority over talent. JG over Bailey, Kennedy over Carvin, George over Burrell, where is Lawrence? Play the young edge rushers, most goes on...
Phil doesn’t want that. He wants the show to be about him and his rebuilding of his university. He loves us but wants his hands all over the success. He thought he could mold Pruitt into an elite coach. He will not and neither will our boosters go after a proven winner. We are going to miss the window on Freeze and after we go 5-7 next year we will be scraping for some up and comer. It’s just how we do things. Freeze will be beating the brakes off us at USCjr or somewhere like that for the next five years. It’s ridiculous that this University has arguably everything a college program could want yet it’s like we enjoy the idea of seeing one of the most passionate fan bases suffer year after year. UT doesn’t feel like it wants UT to succeed. I don’t expect us to open the bank for anyone especially someone who is currently coaching. Who are you going to get?? Freeze is at Liberty and would come. I’m open to other options but who? Who is a proven winner that would come here right now? Urban ain’t walking through that door. Wish we could get Cristobal from Oregon. Recruits said he’s the biggest dog on the trail. This team has talent. The Oline could be GREAT, the Dline shows flashes and the Offense has playmakers......but.
No player progression and if there is it’s a 1/4 of what it should be. No creative play calling, very very vanilla so it’s not hard to scheme defensively against us.
Absolutely no fire, rah rah or any emotions on the sideline. Not one player stepping up emotionally
Now, from what I know about UT football and most of y’all do as well....., Pruitt has another year minimum. They’ll chalk this year up to Covid and a few changes may be made during the off season but in my opinion, CP will be back at least one more year.
It’s hard watching the Vols, and has been hard for 10+ years now and that’s just unacceptable. I don’t know how you fix it, it’s like we are in quick sand and just get deeper and deeper. At some point you gotta go all in and spend big BUCKS on a PROVEN Coach. I’m talking about a TXam type of offer to a PROVE. head coach and give him complete control.
Just my opinion.
