Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I find it fascinating that Fascism is considered a ring wing ideology but in actuality, practiced by the left . It’s really a mind boggling social experiment.
I think the part that is missed in the capitalism, communism, fascism breakdown is not only right or left, but up and down too.
They can occupy the same hemisphere (right or left) but still be completely different based on where they fall comapred to the equator.

New cases is not anywhere close to the same thing as hospitalizations. And given the lack of standardized thresholds, how many of those testing positive at one site/lab would get a negative result from a different test site/lab?

And very few are even put on ventilators anymore, mainly meds and oxygen IF needed. I have it, it sucks, mainly due to smell and taste disappearing, but it’ll come back and I’ll be fine.

Is the smell and taste thing like its completely gone? Or just deadened/less?

Completely gone. Textures make things somewhat discernible but that’s about it. It started Tuesday and I tested positive last week. I’ve been doing some “aroma therapy” on my own trying to see if it’ll help. I saw a video on using essential oils so I may order some. For me it’s the worst part BY FAR.

What's he going to do, shove them in a nursing home?

The great part is he lets people from the higher positivity areas in NY move freely within HIS OWN STATE!! My county is constantly flooded with cars from city and suburbs as well as NJ and CT. But it’s rural and has a low positivity rate. So other people can’t infect NY’ers. But NY’ers can infect other NY’ers.

Still nothing makes sense.

I can't wait for them to start stopping trucks at their border and demanding proof of testing. Will be a lot of hungry people in NY.

You know it’s an odd virus , Truckers with essential products don’t seem to be as contaminated, and dangerous to the public as regular folks . Lol

Study links Trump rallies to more than 700 Covid deaths

This article was making the rounds this week. Here’s the actual paper:

The Effects of Large Group Meetings on the Spread of COVID-19: The Case of Trump Rallies by B. Douglas Bernheim, Nina Buchmann, Zach Freitas-Groff, Sebastián Otero :: SSRN

It’s good to look at the lead author and any disclosures to assess bias, as well as to read the methods to determine how study was completed.

First, the author did not use external funds. “Expenses were covered by Professor Bernheim's unrestricted research account.” And with a little search in OpenData, you’ll find that Prof Bernheim (an Economics professor at Stanford) has significant personal contributions to many Democrat political campaigns.

Second, there is no null hypothesis. They didn’t set out to prove that campaigns WEREN’T a significant spreader of coronavirus. Accepting or rejecting the null hypothesis should be the basis of a strong research project. By not trying to prove the null hypothesis, it introduces another bias. And in this case, when statistical regression models are used, they are more prone to be manipulated to confirm the desired result.

Lastly, there is no review in the actual paper of the weaknesses of the paper. Good research will always be self critical, finding short-comings and/or offering new directions for further study. This article simply concludes they proved what they set out to, that people died because of Trump rallies.

This has been my biggest problem with the pandemic. I know that coronavirus is real, I’m not a denier. But the “science” is so contaminated by bias, it’s impossible to actually know how to move forward.

Another record day yesterday. Keep finding reasons to deny even when you claim not to deny

4th highest in Virginia , let’s crunch some daily numbers and see how deadly this thing actually is ( keep in mind that around here in Norfolk masks are little more than a joke ) ...

Show of hands and looking for intel, who on here has had this thing? I’m on day six since the first symptoms. First 2-3 days had off and on fever, legs hurt, headache off and on and congestion. Haven’t developed a dry cough, just occasionally cough due to the congestion.
Lost my taste and smell around day 4- that’s kind of weird. Was reading that after day 5-6 it could get interesting wrt pulmonary issues, O2 levels, etc.

Do you have an oximeter? If not, get one.

Not a whole lot you can do from home. Take your zinc, your D3, elderberry, etc.

So deaths per case. 2.4% U.S. 2.3% Norfolk VA

The good news for sure is, as COVID 19 continues to mutate, the death rate of deaths to # cases continues to drop. Early on that stat was 5.8% and so it’s now less than half that.

But the purpose of my post was to point up that Election Day has passed and the predictions by the deniers/ conspiratorial theorists was that no new cases would be reported. Another presentation of alternate facts by those who supposedly claim to despise “fake news” yet are the biggest authors of the B.S.

My SIL had it. I suppose she's ok. My brother hasn't said she died. Her parents got sick as her aunt. I think the aunt got the worse case.

If you're challenging something someone said here, copy/paste it and we can talk about it. As for me personally, my take was that there'll be C19 here and it doesn't matter who's President. The virus doesn't care about that. It's spreading here, it's spreading in Europe. It's spreading in areas with heavy restrictions; it's spreading in areas with lax restrictions
