Price “I’ve never understood the Brian Maurer love by the fans”

That pass vs uga. He has swagger/personality that makes him easy to root for. Most don't understand what happens on each play to recognize everything the staff has alluded to him doing wrong. But most of all, he's not JG.

It's JG fatigue.

I mean, Shrout had one good pass against uscjr last year. Outside of that he looked mostly lost vs uscjr and when he got to play against lowly Charlotte as well. But fans are clamoring for him as well.

It's simply JG fatigue. And I'm someone who has been a JG defender the better part of the past two years.

All eyes will be looking at LSU starting a freshman QB against SC this Saturday. I wonder if he'll look like a freshman or superman.
Thought he looked good at the E11, but not elite. He may show out a little...or be shell shocked...leaning towards the latter though.

He's not very mobile and lacking in footwork, so he may not have many "outs" other than playing solid from the pocket. I always thought that helped Dobbs early on and separated his practice play from Saturdays...legs helped him a lot in otherwise not so good performances.

While Maurer does provide a bit of spark to the team, fans, etc. He is our closest thing to a reckless, backyard quarterback and it’s a two steps forward, one step back thing with him when it comes to his game management and putting us in the best scenarios. That combined with the fact that he’s made of glass is why I think he will never command the helm of this offense for even remotely a majority of a season.

Unfortunately I think we’re gonna have to see what HB can do sooner rather than later. If he’s not significantly better than the other 3 we are royally screwed.

That’s genius. Do it! Start the day off with a win. Might be the only one we get tomorrow!
Im a pacifist, but, if someone were to put on a brown boo bag over their head, juss sayin if...and run out on the field and cock punch Nicky, there MAY (Or May Not) be a bag of dollhairs for you somewhere on Campus.

He seems fine jumping up and down after scores and playing scout QB every week. I think he is transferring and they are keeping it under wraps until year end. If he plays then I am complete FOS and will eat crow. But if he doesn’t play at all this year, I think it will be pretty telling.

If Maurer transfers at the end of the season then he must think Bailey is unbeatable already. Otherwise, why transfer when next season the QB spot will be an open battle? I could see him transferring after Spring if Bailey (or someone else) were to become the clear frontrunner but not before.

I mean he had a 45% completion percentage with plenty of snaps. If they weren’t so sick of jg people would realize that he just wasn’t very good.
Its not that he was amazing. He was different. He could run. He was youth and someone to build around. Not the same lame SR thT still plays like a Freshman.

I was at the Georgia game last year. When Maurer hit Callaway in stride for that long td Neyland Stadium was rocking. The fans were in it, the sideline was in it, and fans at home were in it. There was a palpable energy. There was something different about having him on the field that wasn’t/isn’t on the field with Guarantano.
Would be nice if games were won by short bursts of crowd enthusiasm. Maurer might be undefeated.

Reality is he hasn't started and finished a full game and won. After a poor game at UF, he had 1 nice half vs UGA, then all downhill the rest of the season unfortunately.

And I would LOVE him to be a lot better, as I prefer running QBs, but by all accounts rn he isn't ready to be on the field. Sadly, the discussion feels moot at this point.

Not me. I won't watch JG as QB anymore. It's just not enjoyable at all, and I've got better things to do, like literally ANYTHING else. I will forever cheer on the Vols, but I won't let it make me miserable.
Exact same here. I will turn off my television when JG trots out there. Love the vols too much to watch him destroy the team. Gonna go do something productive like workout, go to the store, call my grandma. ANYTHING BUT JG

If you’ll notice I was replying to a post on Price’s comment regarding the “fan love.” I didn’t say Maurer was a world beater. I was explaining why I love when Maurer is on the field.

My money is on Bailey won't see the field until the 4th quarter. Pruitt wants so badly to be right about JG.
And he will lose this fanbase. Die hards will always stay, but I bet many will find better things to do on Saturdays too. If JG plays all game against Bama and doesn’t play well, I will be recording our games from now on and rewatching them only if we win. It’s not worth ruining Saturdays.

He’ll likely throw two quick picks in 1st Q and it’ll be Bailey from then on this season. The comeback win tomorrow will be epic.

Agreed. I don’t think he throws a freshman in the spotlight against the #2 team in the country. If bailey comes in while behind, he can’t be blamed for a loss and he will get to start fresh against more winnable opponents. And on the flip side, if HB were to bring us back by some miracle, his legend is cemented.
