You give him more than 10 reps which is what the announcers during the game said. I would have to see the exact rep breakdown to know for sure who got what, but does JG really need that many reps? It’s year two in this system after all. He should be familiar enough with things by now that he doesn’t need that much work during fall camp.

Doesn’t matter anyway. JG still can’t read the field and the coaches still can’t figure that out after three years. It’s not about being able to see the future. Just what’s been in front of their eyes the whole time

anybody that watched last year that doesnt' think JG needed more reps and more time in the system.......didn't see the same things the rest of us saw.

JG needd this off season as much as any of the QB's on the roster....make no mistake about that. and he needed to be pushed in practice by somebody....anybody....shrout, maurer or bailey...anyone.

didn't happen. not the coaches' fault.

It’s the coaches fault for not getting a transfer to come in and push him.

I would say that it’s a waste of time to give him reps because he doesn’t improve from them. He still can’t read the field. What are more reps going to do to help that? It’s year 6 for him as a college QB. At some point you have to realize the kid can’t play and let other guys get the same opportunities he’s had.

No amount of coaching is going to fix what's broken with JG. I said that last year as well. He doesn't have the natural instinct or calm to play QB. When pressure mounts, he breaks. If we can keep the pressure off of him, maybe he does okay, but this is football, and we can't take that risk. And we know Bama will bring the pressure.

dont disagree.

circumstances change, new course of action needed.....i'm not arguing against HB in favor of JG at this point. i'm just marvelling at the notion that the shutdown, and quarantines are some how the coaches' fault.......
No argument there. I will say that how one RESPONDS after it starts going south is part of a fair judgement. Twiddling their toes ain’t gonna work. If the DL is suddenly riled up on Saturday and starts making more impact after last Sunday’s move? Then there’s a positive step.

College football is a funny game. Most the players will not play professionally. Unlike the pros, they think about more than football. We as fans think they should think football 24/7, but in reality they do not. I reality, many of us care more about winning than they do.

They care about their classes, they care about their girl friends, some just want to get high or drunk just like a lot of 18-22 year olds want to do. Many of these young men see playing as an opportunity to get an education.

Until a few years ago, I never thought about these aspects of college football. Coaches have a real challenge getting players to focus week end and week out. Pruitt inherited an unfocused group. There are signs that he has been successful in refocusing them, but unfortunately two years and a few months has not been enough time yet.

Recruiting is more than stars. Teams need leaders and they need players who hate losing more than they love winning. The jury is still out, but IMO we have come a long ways from the disaster at the end of Butch Jones era. This next recruiting class is vital to help bring the Vols back to championship contenders.

you shoud apply for a job on the staff, since predicting the future is a new requiste qualification....lol.

no one said JG was good, or was going to be good.

but if he was going to be on the roster, and he was going to compete, again, for the starting QB job......................he needed reps. and lots of them. i don't feel like this is an unknown???

doens't guarantee success. but doesn't remove the need to find out either. same goes for the other three.

If it works for the DL, maybe we should fire Weinke and let Pruitt take over QBs as well, lol.

Chaney is well aware that JG does not have the proper mental fortitude. It's been mentioned in the past.

agree.

and in a results oriented business, i think it's more than fair to say we should move on from JG....i wouldn't have been upset about him not starting the season in favor of someone else, but i completely understand why he did....

and i'll understand why he's replaced....

Wrong.

It is always the coaches fault when players have not been recruited/signed/developed. Nowhere else to point the finger. This shrugging of the shoulders/no directed accountability is garbage.

I guess you blame fans for expectations of excellence?

So you're saying they failed?
the grad transfer qb's? yeah, they failed. Chryst was not very good. the MD kid left/opted out or whatever...and JT Daniels went..elsewhere. but as it turns out, that knee is still a bit of problem, so not sure how much difference he makes here anyway...i can't' imagine riding the bench with a bum knee in Knoxville is all together differnt from doing it in Athens?

we're all aware. have been for going on 3 years. doens't change anything about what you do with rep count if you have an open compeition with 4 guys.

especially considering the incumbent is apparently the Tom Brady of practice....needed to see the other 3 push....everyone gets better...in theory anyway.

I held on to that “he’s the least likely to get us BEAT” sentiment...til he started getting us beat.

“He confirmed my suspicions...he’s damn good at practice! Best chance to win...harrumph harrumph harrumph!”
