Where would Tennessee be right now if they had hired Mike Leach?

We got better talent than State does and I bet he would have prepared one of our more talented QBs. So I’m guessing 3-1.

I don’t think he could have taken UGA and may have even dropped one to USCe or Mizzou. I would feel better going into the Bama game but we still would be looking at a long season.

Pruitt not getting ready a good QB is his biggest fault to date. It has cost and will cost him games. First time head coaches will make blunders like this.

As a whole, I just don't think anyone with weird personality would have gone over well...Leach, Mullen after coming off Butch and his antics. We'd have Mullen right now if Kelly didn't opt out on FL and choose UCLA.

How do you define “GET THE JOB DONE”? What result(s) do you need to see before you declare THE JOB DONE”?

I was very disappointed in CJP when, at the halftime of the Bama game hid first year, he basically said his then players weren't good enough to compete and he'd need a couple of recruiting cycles to compete. A 34-7 loss to KY after 2 recruiting cycles doesn't show much (any?) improvement. He's got some work to do before I am sold on him.

I don't know where we would be but we would have a head coach who at least has some success in his past to point to for hope. There is nothing to point to in Pruitt's past other than good defenses on good teams

Complaining about lack of defense probably. Maybe offense too they way Miss st has looked the last couple of weeks.

Yeah. LSU was a good win for them and caught a lot of attention early. Since then the win doesn't look as good if you have watched LSU very much. And MSU has slid backwards pretty quick.

I thought Leach could be a pretty good hire here, but that was far from a guarantee.

This shouldn’t even be a discussion. He’s not a fit for the program, fan base, nor the area. He wouldn’t have been received very well bc his awkward weirdness would not gel well here. This is ridiculous to even mention now.

He would’ve already been fired for saying or doing something stupid off the field to the wrong person.

We'd be in about the same place Mississippi Sate is if I were guessing, if not worse. They beat LSU, GREAT. But they turned around and lost to Arkansas (which I'm well aware is still possible for us to do without a change at QB) in a game that the highly vaunted offense of Mike Leach only got 14 points on the board. Then they get their butts handed to them (about like we did) by Kentucky and they only managed to get 2 points on the board. Then they play Texas A&M, and score 1 offensive touchdown.

But they beat LSU to begin the season. Well so did Missouri, and we actually did beat them...pretty handily.

I'm not saying getting beat by Kentucky didn't suck because it did. There is absolutely no excuse as to why it happened. No excuse as to why Coach Pruitt insists on playing JG. None at all. But what I am saying, is that we have a much better long term coach in Coach Pruitt than we would have had in Leach. Dodged a big bullet on that one imo.

JG would have never played a game for Leach.

That being said, I don't feel confident that Leach would put in a solid defense either.
Putting up 56 points on 72 passing attempts is fun, but if the defense scores 57, you still lose.

I'm glad we have who we have. Pruitt is a solid coach. I said at the beginning of this year that I was just thankful to have football, and that I wasn't going to be upset at anything that happened. I realized that NOBODY is able to run a normal program this year, and there would be effects from that. I hate losing to Kentucky in any circumstance. But I realize that these guys didn't get spring practice to prepare, they didn't get much of summer conditioning, they didn't get to scrimmage hardly at all, Fall camp was crap because of the quarantines. Nothing has been normal. And I'm not making excuses, you still have to execute. But this year is just one that to me, doesn't gauge who you are as a football program. There was a LOT of preparation missed this year for guys like HB or our wide receivers who really needed it.
Been there done that during the Dooley years.

In the same boat as Mississippi State but the press conferences would be more entertaining.
