Reminiscing On Bray's Throws vs JG's Throws

Bray had an amazing arm.

Crazy how often we were losing in these highlights. Real dark times for the program.

Not to minimize JG’s issues, but I think it’s both.

...and while Palmer is good, there’s nothing on our roster that resembles Corderele Patterson and Justin Hunter.

Hasn't been anyone on the roster since 2013 that could touch Hunter and Patterson.

As much as I like Jennings, he just had the fight in him to make some great catches over any jaw dropping skills.

2 wide receivers drafted from UT since 2013, Jennings last year and Josh Malone in 2017.

Not sure why y'all remember the Bray years so fondly. It was rare that the Vols were ever in a close game but when they were, it was rare that he made a play to win the game.

What is the alternative at this point?

Reliving the pick sixes from last week or Guarantanos numerous other gaffes?

It is nice to recall having some weapons on the outside and a QB that could get them the ball deep. Simple as that.

I was thinking about JG's throws and it made me think of when we had Bray. After watching his YouTube video, I really miss those down the field throws. WR's had decent separation, and many were wide open.

You do realize that WR's being wide open and having separation has nothing to do with the QB and everything to do with the play calls and WR's themselves? QB's that have WR's getting separation and ya know being wide open almost universally put up good stats.Caz ya know its kinda easy to hit a guy thats wide open.

I'm sure the fact that we have terrible QB play at present is causing some rosy retrospection.

He could fill up a highlight reel with pretty throws, there's no doubt about that. He also was a headcase, had a terrible attitude at times, and never quite brought it against good defenses like he did against bad ones. In the video in the OP, a lot of those throws were against garbage defenses.

I wasn't discussing character or attitudes of past QB's. I was pointing to the fact of downfield throws. Forget OL play, forget who the throws were against, cause we can't get those throws against the GaSt & Vandy's of the world these days.

@k-town_king THIS is what timing, accuracy, and good decision making in the pass game looks like. This is what a quick release looks like. This is what it looks like to have a QB hit hot routes so D's can't blitz him constantly.

The OL had less talent. The WR's had less depth than either of the last two years. RB's weren't even close.

This is the kind of playmaker UT needs at the QB position.

When JG does get the ball to the receivers, there is also the chance he's throw a rocket so hard no one can catch it. I mean no one. Guess you have to list that as one of his "hurries"

Remember CP never could run routes. And I think Jalen Hyatt and Holiday are fast and going to be good. And Jones number 1 and Gray can be a wide out.

There arent many schools with a Patterson on their roster.

Dude was a freak.

A decent D and an above average RB and that team was a contender with a real coach.

I think if he had a more regimented coach like a Cut earlier in his career he would’ve had more success as a pro. But there’s nothing wrong holding a clipboard forever .
He had Andy Reed for 3 our 4 years and that is as good of coaching a QB can get.

Ahh The Gunslinger. I still think he threw the prettiest deepball ever... almost like he reached out and gently placed the ball in the receivers' hands.

But did we really give up 48 points to Troy? How did I block that from my memory?
Tony Robinson says differently

I would go as far to say if we had Bray he would make the oline look better like he did when he came in and replaced Sims and we would be undefeated and could play with anyone. We have alot more WR's that are good now that he would make look great.

I agree about Andy Reid, but I said earlier in his career. If he would’ve been more disciplined earlier in his career he could’ve developed better habits.

Say what you will about Dooley (it’s all deserved), watching his teams loose was a helluva lot more fun than watching Pruitt’s loose

Hunter and Patterson were definitely fun to watch but let's also not forget D Rogers - this was against Cincy when Butch was coaching there.
