If you listen to the Locked on Vols podcast today, Josh Ward had an excellent comparison between Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt through the same number of games. Spoiler alert, Butch Performed better on the field, he performed better in recruiting too.

Me too and its pretty evident if you take your JG derangement syndrome and set it aside.

Pruitts biggest mistake was hoping JG could just be a game manager and save our 2021 recruiting class. Should've gone after a good transfer QB I think so he didn't have to soley rely on JG. Can't fully blame him with JG being such an enigma. It was seeming like the right call until the 3rd quarter at Georgia. I also can't blame him in that, I cant think of a single QB in the history of football be as up and down and disastrous in such inconceivable ways as JG can be. Still though, he shouldn't have risked that. Too conservative.

The foundation is there. If JG at least plays like he did against Missouri and USCjr we easily beat KY. We were moving the ball easily and JG threw it to blue and blew it.

Its time to work on the young guys more. Pruitt knows that. Even tho he's not shelfing JG, he did confirm that there is at the very least competition at QB and will be getting other guys a go.

I think JG finally wetting the bed expedites the growth in our program we need at the QB position. KY might be the sacrifice we needed. It was my feelings that we needed to go with the young guys all year long because I feared this with JG and I think we have QB's behind JG that can at least reach his level this year. Now we know our young guys are gonna get some quality work done and see the field this week and beyond.

I know it shouldn’t, simply because Kentucky is a much better team (than G-ST) and their SEC, and have way more talent.

However for me it was worse. Not saying it “is” worse......just seems it to me. It feels worse because I know Kentucky hadn’t beaten Tennessee at home by that kind of margin since the 1800’s......and they didn’t even have a coach back then.

We didn't get manhandled. JG fumbled and threw two blatant interceptions in one quarter and then Shrout immediately threw an interception. Our defense was completely shutting them down, we were running at will and when JG wasn't throwing interceptions we were completing passes downfield. No turnovers and we easily win that game. Everything is in place to be successful except our stupid QB problem. If we have good QB play we are the 4th or 5th best team in the league right now.

We are not even competitive against Kentucky. We are paying a football coach over $4 million a year and this is the end result. We have a coach who refuses to give any other QB an opportunity. I have never seen a coach give a quarterback as many opportunities as Pruitt has given to Jarrett Guarantano.
Guarantano throws two straight pick-sixes, you only give J.T. Shrout three plays as an opportunity, and you bring back Guarantano onto the field? What logic does that make?

It is year three now and we still do not have a QB. Pruitt has failed to develop Guarantano into being a competent QB. Sure, you can make the excuses that he has had a couple different OC’s and QB coaches. But this all comes down to the head coach. This is just inexcusable.
No one expected him to be a world-beater, but Guarantano is still making freshman mistakes. Having the same game plan and expecting different results week in and week out is the definition of insanity. Pruitt, yesterday, in the post-game press conference blamed his masks as part of the loss.
No this is not a joke, he literally said his mask caused communication issues. These excuses are just pathetic. These type of excuses are something Butch Jones would say.

29 games into his tenure at Tennessee, Jones was 14-15. Pruitt is 15-14. Yes, Pruitt’s record is better than Jones’ so far. But here is the difference between the two’s tenures.
Butch’s teams got better and were competitive against Florida and Oklahoma by year three. We are losing to Kentucky by 27 at home. This team and program is going backwards.
This team literally quit in the 3rd quarter when Kentucky scored their third touchdown. At least when it came to Butch’s teams, they would wait until November before they quit. At least Jones’ teams were fairly competitive against Florida and Georgia. At least Jones’ teams beat Kentucky.
We haven’t even made it halfway to the season and this team has appeared to quit. Much like this team, this fanbase is starting to quit on this football program. Alabama rolls into town this weekend and that will be a loss before we have a week off.
Pruitt and this team need to get it together and salvage this season in the second half of the season. But, if we continue to see what we saw Saturday, Tennessee isn’t winning another game this year.

I understand the criticism of JG but not Pruitt - he doesn't fumble the ball or throw the interceptions No matter how much he plans and coaches - it is JG who turns the ball over - by the way the average number of possessions in a game is 12 times offensively - so keep that in mind

Game one - win at s carolina - average play by JG but not great - no fumbles or interceptions
Game two - win at Mizz - better than average play bu JG - no fumbles or interceptions
Game 3 - TN wins the first half - average play by JG - no fumbles or interceptions
Then - JG goes off the scale in the next 4 quarters and gets beat buy both teams badly - same coach - same players - how is this not the product of JG

Uh no. I think you need to walk outside and check the weather again. I’m not seeing anyone say or even imply they are looking for championships “now”. That’s ridiculous and not reflecting the temperature of the fan base. Let’s just start with no further turdburger performances that litter Beldars history.

It’s also quite telling to hear someone say Beldar is “learning on the job”. I’m sure that will provide great comfort to the fans. 🙄

I don't agree, 2 good recruiting years vs everyone 4 to 6 , not a fair assessment or comparison. Am I happy with Pruitt right now? No, it is not realistic or a good idea

Folks, if you make Butch Jones your measuring stick, you’ve already lost the argument. He is not the standard.

If you take the Butch Jones element out of that story, everything else the writer says is true. This program is not moving forward right now. It instead a raging dumpster fire.

We lost by 4 touchdowns and mustered a grand total of 70 yards of total offense the 2nd half. On what planet is that not being manhandled? Our qb didn't decide not to block on several plays this season and we have zero deep threats on offense. We aren't on the cusp of anything outside of mediocrity

To me, we're a QB away from being good. JG can't make a good decision in a short amount of time. He either makes a bad decision quickly or a good decision slowly. The last two games he hasn't had time to take his usual 4-5 seconds to make a play. That means turnovers.

We need someone to get the ball out of their hands quickly to make teams pay for blitzing. Right now it's easy enough to just send 6 or 7 after the QB and reap the benefits with strip sacks and INTs. We have no balance at all.

The only comparison worth disusing is the university making the same mistakes with Pruitt as we did with Jones. Fulmer has already made a huge mistake with the extension.

You're not seeing the whole picture. We got 70 yards in the second half because we had no choice but to throw the ball, something we're not good at, particularly with a QB that already threw 2 pick sixes.

Not only that, but they scored 17 points without getting a single first down in the first half (they got first downs just not on those scoring "drives"). We also cost ourselves points when Chandler knocked the ball out of JGs hand. That's a 20-24 point swing. One of those pick sixes was on another drive where it looked like we'd score a touchdown or at least get a field goal. That takes that count up to 23-31 points we left on the field.

I'm not excusing the play, but the bottom line is you can't turn the ball over 4 times and expect to win. They started controlling the game when we gave up.

In 2014 Florida scored TEN points on us... TEN... and still won.

There are plenty of arguments against Pruitt, but this one is dumb. Tennessee’s 3 biggest rivals are all in the Top 10 consistently right now, 2 are in the Top 5 consistently. Even Clemson would have a much worse record if you threw those 3 against them every year right now.

Clemson would have had just a good a chance of being 6-0 in that span as they were better than 3 of those teams. Don't return the favor with silliness of your own....
