Agreed, but I think it’s a big part of why the young QB’s in Maurer and Bailey aren’t ready.

After the bye week i think this team will look completely different.
Absolutely with Bailey. I think Maurer may be a bit of that, mixed with trust issues. I've seen several on here refer to him as a "headcase" because he apparently has depression. Mental illness still carries a serious stigma, even though it's a real and true medical illness that can be treated with medication. I feel bad that people judge him on that. He doesn't deserve it.

Honestly, I think Covid is at least part of the problem at most positions because of our youth. I don't think that applies to a 5th year SR. QB.

Are we that young compared to other teams? I honestly don’t know. Starts and snaps wise, I thought we were one of the most experienced teams in the SEC.

Our experienced players are butchs last class and Pruitts first... so we may be “veteran” but not that talented in those classes. Those two classes were the worst in a while and produced a few good players but not enough.

Based on his post it does sound like he deals with mental illness, which I hate to see and hope he gets treatment he needs.

However I really don’t believe this is affecting the coaches decision by any means. They played him several games last year and I’m sure this isn’t some new revelation to the coaches. It’s been discussed before, but I think the main reason he’s behind is he was injured in fall camp and then was out again for Covid. 10-14 days for Covid plus a week or two for his hamstring doesn’t equate to a whole lot of reps.

IMO, the bama game is what it is. I’m not going to crush the coaching staff for it this year with the backups not having many reps, especially with the first team. They showed the willingness to put a different guy out there last year on multiple occasions. JG will likely start and get the majority of snaps with one of these guys getting garbage time. I’m more interested to see who comes out against Arkansas.

Defensively, I'd say Covid has affected safeties, linebackers, and the DL rotation. I don't think that's a stretch. Offensively, it's affected the WR rotation, TEs, the OL gelling as a unit, and the QBs behind JG. At least that's my opinion. Shouldn't have as big an effect on JG, the RBs, the CBs, or the individual play of the OL.

Watch Maurer or Shrout transfer and be amazing next year. You can see it coming
not at all with shrout. People seem to forget he almost threw 30 INTs in his senior year of high school. He clearly has never been able to get the job done and never will imo

If Bailey plays most of the game against Bama, I expect it to not be pretty, but I’m totally in for it. Growth is rarely fun, and we need some dudes to start growing because JG is not going to improve anymore

Just like with Georgia, the o line has to step up to even keep it a game. Something else I noticed at the end of the Kentucky game was that the receivers just quit running good routes and the team basically gave up. That’ll make any qb on our roster look like trash. That’s one reason why my vote is for Maurer since he’s the most capable runner of the group.

we are.........and we aren't.

you have a few contributors from 17, Chandler and Trey Smith primarily.
Pruitt's 18 class....say what you want but that class is the "year zero" class.....
his first two real classes are 19 and 20. and the 19 guys are true sophomores....and did NOT get that year 1 off season development headed in to year two.

so you have a lot of reps that returned this season, but we are "young" still....and the 20 class got zilch by way of a spring or summer and the 19 class kids missed on what may be the most important off season of their college careers.....

and i think our QB situation is exhibit A...as i think that group was hur the most by not having the QB competition all off season we all knew they needed. i also think part of the O line's problem is that they didn't get enough reps together in the off season to build a "unit".

now you can debate how/why other things in regards to those things not happening in some other way/shape/form....but to me, i don't think you can discount how big a deal this off season not happening was for this particular roster....at this stage of it's development.

the affect it has on JG is that he didn't pushed by anyone in a competitive situation over the off season..........he's the best practice QB ever apparently.....would have been nice to see if one of these guys could have unseated him as the practice champ.....or at least really pushed him.

on the DL, i think losing Emmet Gooden was a big deal....he was supposed to be the anchor of the DL this year.....talk about a juco bust. hurt last year never really played, and got kicked off the team before he played a down his second year. big deal imo.

I think you need to slow down and look at posts by individuals rather than grouping everyone with criticism together. We're not all the same guy (or gal). Some people go over the top, some don't. It's not reasonable to group us all together. That's not how conversation works.

And I don't buy that talk on this message board is going to destroy our progress. What we say will not change Pruitt or his approach.
It will hurt recruiting. A negative corrosive atmosphere always hurts recruiting.

Tidbits from 3&Out that I pray are not true:

Bailey was out a lot for contact tracing, but did still practice more than what is being led on. They said when he came back that they gave him 10 reps and they were awful. So Pruitt decided to just get two QBs ready and Bailey kind of “disappeared.”
Maurer is fine. They said he played scout QB to prepare for KY for his running ability. Basically said they just don’t want to play him.
The scrimmage last Sunday was the first time they really let Bailey play and he balled out. It made Pruitt realize that he is actually really good and they are trying to get him ready as quick as possible.
They do not understand how this coaching staff thought that JG and Shrout should be the only real QBs getting reps when we saw how bad they could play last year.
No one is even mad at JG. He is who he is. They said our coach should have known an implosion could come at any time. Fans and anyone who covers sports knew it could take one game and our coach acted like it was fine.
They talked about Jordan Rodgers breaking down JGs picks and how bad they were. They said in the type of coverage they ran, you can never throw those balls. They are dumbfounded how Pruitt keeps playing JG over and over after mistake and mistake when any other player would have been pulled immediately and chastised.
They said we would have been better off firing Butch after year three when you had the signs that he wasn’t the guy. We waited too long and it caused our climb to take longer. They think if this season goes completely down the drain and Pruitt continues to play JG, you may have to start having real conversations about the trajectory of our program.
All basically the same thing Tony B was talking about on his postgame show

i agree with this.

that said, we can't on one hand tout voltwitter and as an asset, but not also recognize that it can turn people off when it goes "the other way".

Random thought, but has anybody noticed whether or not Dominic Bailey has been getting on the field much or heard any news on him? I’ve seen Omari out there, but haven’t heard much on Bailey. Would be nice to get both these guys solid reps this year as I think they can both be difference makers in the middle for the future.

That Gump better get his program in order or his azz is gone. He won’t be fired this year but he’s starting to look like a PE teacher. The Kentucky loss is only 11 points off from what Georgia did to Butch. He does care for these kids unlike our former maniac but the program under Bubba Gump is going to crash with him playing 💩 boy.
For Pete's sake...this crap is exactly what I am talking about..Love you to death Jacket..me and you agree on a whole lot, but this corrosive attitude does not help anything...at all.

Come on...calm down. That score was a F'n mirage.
