Has another QB ever really had a TRUE chance to play?

And yet he still remained a 3*......interesting
Because he didn’t make it public knowledge. Plus here’s another tid bit of info. He only SHOWS as a 3* because he signed in January. Had he waited he was all but guaranteed a major bump in February (the next update) after his elite 11 performance at The Opening.

Bottom line is his offer list is much more impressive than you know. Those bottom feeder schools you used in your post were early offers. Anyone that thinks the offers just STOPPED after his performance at The Opening is extremely naive.

The problem is that Maurer and Shrout are not SEC caliber QBs. Here are their offer lists out of high school for evidence:

Maurer - TN, Appy St., Boston College, Charlotte, and Cincy

Shrout - TN, Cal, Ball St., Colorado St., Hawaii

Those are AWFUL offer lists. And yet so many think these guys are capable of playing in the SEC? We were the only SEC offers these guys had.
I'm going to post high school stats, please label them with whose you think they are ( from UT's roster )

QB Number 1 Senior Year: 176 Passes Thrown 121 completed 1481 yds 11tds

QB Number 2 Senior Year: 428 Passes Thrown 280 completed 3537 yds 34tds

QB Number 3 Senior Year: 414 Passes Thrown 211 completed 3064 yds 27tds

QB Number 4 Senior Year: 392 Passes Thrown 272 completed 4261 yds 44tds

Somebodies daddy paid for their 4 star ranking

Chaney has adapted the playbook to JG...

And it's NOT winning formula, because JG can't make a defense respect the passing game. He can't make a defense respect him as the extra man to run.
Really? What has Chaney done that plays to JGs strengths? He comes out and throws deep balls, runs plays that require a lot of check downs and decision making. This is not JG's strength. Shorter routes, RPOs, jet sweeps, screens, and more running plays. I'd like to see that be the game plan if JG is the QB. JG is too rattled to run the offensive game plan that we are rolling out each week.

It didn't list games played but if you want to go back to JG's Jr year he was just as bad, nothing about his High School Career warranted his ranking
Iirc JG played in 12 games that year. JT played in 10. BM played in 10 and HB played in 14.

sounds about right, someone told the story one time about some shady stuff going on with Butch Jones and the recruiting services ( rivals/ 247 ) but I don't remember the details now
Everything is political. I can tell some stories myself but no one would believe me.

Maurer was given a legit shot last year. He got hurt and threw a ton a picks. But they did give him a chance. Shrout was only put in for a series, before they would go straight to jg.
Maurer threw 5 picks over 8 games. Guarantano has turned the ball over 6 times in the last 6 quarters, and 3 have been returned for tds. Your argument just doesn’t hold water.

I think Chaney has his hands tied by an overbearing coach and a QB who’s accuracy is questionable and goes completely out the window when facing adversity.

The QB issue in my opinion is all recruiting and development. We haven’t recruited a 5th year senior or a high school QB capable of beating out the worst game day QB in Tennessee football history. The coaches have also failed to develop their 5th year senior or the other three QB’s on the roster into a SEC starting QB.
Jmo.

JG couldn't fall out of a boat and hit water.

I thought Maurer was offered by Ohio State?

I remember last year Maurer being the only one who could move the ball. Then he would get pulled the next series so JG could give us a quick 3 and out. Multiple occasions. Was def a head scratcher
JT had a great half game with completed bombs with a long TD to Calloway. Forgot at the moment who the opponent was.
