JG is the starter against Bama (merged)

JG is starting this week because Pruitt wants to make sure that he (Pruitt) has no chance at being the first to beat Saban as a former assistant coach, It is as simple as that.

I think he doesn’t want to throw Bailey to the wolves so he will let JG play against Alabama since it’s an automatic loss anyways. The bye week comes at a perfect time to get Bailey the reps he needs to play. Give him 2 weeks worth of starting reps and he should at least be competent.

I think we will see Bailey and/or Maurer in the second half.

This is what I expect too. Give HB as many reps as he can, let JG start against bubba, get crunched as expected and bring Bailey in garbage time to get experience. and then start from then on.

At least I sure do hope this is the plan

Realistically who are they going to trot out there? I think if BM were healthy we’d have already seen him. JT possibly, hoping his one pas attempt was just the jitters or an anomaly. HB may have more potential and talent than all of the others but minimal spring and fall camps, training table time in fall camp, and Covid protocols seem to have provided him the most limited practice time out of the whole group. If Holiday can run, I’d give him a shot. BM is probably the second most mobile, but reports indicate he is limited with a nagging hammy. Hopefully HB or the Salter kid coming in will be the “one”.

Michael Bittner on Hudl

PWO --- Ran scout team last year and has shared that with Harrison Bailey over the past 4 weeks.
Played for Cincinnati Elder in Ohio's largest school division, their conference was ranked one of the toughest in the country ... this is the same school that IU's QB (Ramsey) went to and who we played against in the bowl game.
Bittner's senior year he threw the ball 286 times and ran it 178 times with only 1 fumble and averaging over 275 yards per game in total offense in 11 games before getting hurt in playoffs. Had 11 rushing TDs and 16 throwing TDs. By his film it shows a very mobile QB who can throw on the run and threw a lot of slants and roll-outs.
Sometimes walk-on work out... Baker Mayfield and Stetson Bennett IV
and yes I know the family

I remember a time when I was excited for football season. Sadly that time has passed. We are 4 mediocre coaches into a dumpster fire. The AD is refuses to acknowledge that a quality coach could pull this program back together. However, they'll continue to try to find a diamond in the rough and end up with a polished turd.

I am, literally, stunned. Pruitt is the most boneheaded, stubborn coach we have ever had in my lifetime, and I thought Late Stage Fulmer was bad.

Then again, he has Retired on Active Duty Fulmer as his mentor now, so what do we expect.

P.S. JG is our starter next year, too......

could Covid still rescue the hapless Vols?

I have no doubt that Guaranturnover will start on Saturday. The question is whether we see one of the other QBs after it gets out of hand.
According to Trey Wallace, JG ran with the 1’s and Bailey and Maurer split time in the scrimmage. He also claims Pruitt threatened to fire Weinke on the sidelines Saturday. TIFWIW.🤷‍♂️
GBO!!

Unless the schedule dictates that we play someone next week due to covid mandated rescheduling of games. Maybe the pull a game forward like aTm or Auburn

I'll be the first to admit I was in the crowd that believed JG was our best option to win games. While that may still be true, its no way I would play JG again this season.

I think we all would agree it would have been hard pressed to beat the elite teams in our conference with JG (or other any QB on our roster) but he did have success against the middle of the road teams in the SEC (Kentucky, Mizz, Auburn, etc). But after last week showing its hard to have confidence that we can beat those teams now. Since that's the case, we should play these younger QBs and see what we have bc its not any more guaranteed wins on the schedule with the QB play we have been getting (except for Vandy, we better not lose to Vandy!!).

Let's see HB, Maurer, and JT and let's decide who our QB is going into next season. I had high hopes for this team this year. I thought we could have gone 7-3 if we had good, solid, consistent QB play. Maybe that QB is not on the roster yet, I'm hoping HB is.

If the season doesn't count against eligibility then why not play the freshman to give him as many reps as possible? This literally could be an entire season of learning on the field for him....

that's the $4 million question.

but alabama probably isn't the best game to get him acclimated.

We have no chance to beat Alabama no matter who starts this year.

Ugghh this is 1994 but without the right decisions being made. JG is JC but is psychologically injured instead of physically injured. The caretaker Helton type Shrout is not going to get it done. You put the 5 star Peyton type in, protect him with conservative play calling mixed with an occasional shot downfield, and let him struggle/ develop. You have to figure out now if he is able to be the future of the program. If not, we need to bring 4 or 5 qbs in during this recruiting class/ transfer season. This is not difficult, Jeremy! Playing PM, CC, and EA before they were ready as true freshmen ultimately turned out some winning football.

I am almost ashamed to fly my UT flag as I watch us dismantle ourselves on national TV! Probably need to start flying it upside down though. Talk about National Exposure
I have felt that way about wearing UT baseball caps. I feel I’m getting a lot of smirks directed at me after an embarrassing loss.

Recap from Bama game last year: JG changed (or forgot the play call) the goal line play to a QB sneak that otherwise was designed for QC as tailback to score - BIG FAIL.

JG should've never seen the field again after that, maybe.

2020 situation surely can't have him come in again and perform similarly AND throw multiple int's, right?

We're due, right?
