Coach Pruitt and Future

Or as we are seeing across the country "the same as many coaches coming into really down programs" I refer you to an above post about the KY program... I don't remember how many seasons it to Dabo, to rebuild Clemson, but it took a few and they weren't all the way down like us and others.. It also helps when you are rebuilding in a situation the your main completion is struggling or on the way up from a down time.

Dabo also has 2 National Championships and 6 ACC Championships under his belt.

Pruitt is getting embarrassed by Kentucky on his home field his third year on the job.

Not a good comparison.

When are we going to stop blaming Butch for Pruitt’s struggles? This is Year 3 now. He’s had time to develop a winning culture and get most of his players to buy into his system.

For a team that is supposedly on the right track, getting embarrassed by an average team at home by UK is the new standard. You can’t sit there and tell me we didn’t have the talent to compete with Kentucky? That’s a coaching issue with Pruitt, can’t make up anymore excuses.

When are we going to stop accepting mediocrity?

If I were a Tennessee player who had just the two or three series before see my QB fart to ball away and saw "down 2-3 scores". My reaction would be "what the hell is the use, this SOB got us into this mess, no need to think he can get us out" play it out and start over next game..
I fear Pruitt is losing the confidence of the whole team and really down deep the team has given up on JG ever being able to preform well enough to be a "winner".

Am I to understand this is now a 7 year rebuild? That's a large number, even for the most devoted Sunshine Pumper.

Interesting. I guess I need to reassess my expectations.

I think Pruitt will have us in a competitive situation in 5 years, but ii make take 7 years to get us in to a dominate situation. We will get there.

I refuse to countenance the Kentucky comparison...they were not a historic SEC power-program. Clemson, while not down like we have been, had never achieved the National prominence of Tennessee.

Again...I'm not suggesting National Championships to be the measuring stick. Beating teams that you should historically beat, avoiding 20-30 point beatdowns by the others, and being in the DISCUSSION for our division, are current and achievable goals. Anyone who is an apologist and will support less than that from the "best staff in America" is really asking too little of their investment.

The team quitting is on Pruitt. The lack of an SEC QB is on Pruitt. Lack of a QB will be hard to overcome this year and this is year three of his tenure. At some point he may develop into a good or even great head coach, he isn’t one now.

Remember the debacle that Pruitt walked into when hired. You aren't getting highly ranked quarterbacks coming in those first w years which is why we ended up with Shrout & Maurer in years 1 & 2. Hell, in Year 1 he barely had 2 weeks to recruit anyone. Going into Year 3 we had Bailey...which may have put us in a vastly different place on the QB front right now if Covid hadn't shown up.

My one beef with CJP - it's well past time to draw the line with JG and bench him permanently. There should be ZERO chance of him playing next year even if he has eligibility due to this covid mess. If we're going to take our lumps lets do it with HB, JTS, or BM. Build for the future and be done with this charade at QB.

So a guy who has never, ever been a head coach at any level, is trying a total rebuild in the toughest semi-pro, (fake amateur college) football league in America. What a fictional script, no one would believe it.

JG is what his record says he is, a loser ( not personally but as a QB ).

I thin your example of Clemson is excellent. It was not done quickly and their program was not in as bad shape as ours...blame that on Dooley and certainly Butch Jones. The embarrassment by Kentucky was mainly the performance of QB JG, three mistakes and 17 quick points for Kentucky. The problem with QB JG is that he keeps making the same mistakes game after game and year after year....the freshman Bailey may be our savior on the offensive side.

I still believe Pruitt is the right guy, but his loyalty to JG is perplexing. It will get him ran off if it isn’t permanently altered...start playing for the future, and I believe he will.

I have posted this before, but once again...
At a luncheon the first year of Majors' return, I ask him "coach how long will it take to get the program where you want it"?
He said 6-7 years. Mainly due to the restriction on number of players. It takes quite awhile to change the culture of a program that has taken several years to get in the shape we are in. SO - - TIME, TIME,TIME!!!!
"Sheeyuttt, Majors don't know what he's talking about. All we got to do is offer Urban or Nick a billion dollars and we'll be playing for a Natty in 2 years...."

Someone on VolNation.....
probably

I guess the bright side is he can only start JG so many years.

Pruitt knows QB JG is the best that he has at the moment until the freshman 5-star Bailey gets the experience....remember we did not have a spring practice nor the summer to more quickly develop him either. If we had both, Bailey might be our starter now.

U.S. Presidents only get 4 year terms to turn around an entire country.

Vol football coaches get 7 years to turn around 85 scholarship players.

Apparently 7 years.

7? No, come on that's asking too much considering where the program was. No other coach in the country could have taken a 4-8 team and in 3 seasons make them relevant and able to compete with the likes of KY. Give Pruitt 10 years and watch him get us to where we belong, 3rd in the east!

Hey pal, bash the coach, bash the players, bash the program if you want, but lay off the beer prices!
Sincerely,
Volnation’s resident beer rep.
GBO!!
It's not bashing...it's the only thing the football program has going for them right now. Got to secure that revenue somehow.
