JG aside, our lack of a strong RB is killing us

He’s not a feature back RUNNING wise. Dynamic as a change up but no workhorse. Needs a Mark Ingram type to complement. After Hurd departed, he couldn’t hold up against SC. It’s a BVS thing to lament perceived loss. He led the SEC in total yards in 2016 and had less yards rushing than the preceding season. We definitely could have used him more, but a majority of posters here were inconsolable after Hurd was announced out for the A&M game. Met up with @UT_Dutchman at a tailgate and we were excited about the possibilities with Hurd/Kelly...we were in the minority. He needed a Kelly at least...even then. He can’t be that centerpiece in the backfield for an entire NFL season. Even last night he had 45 yards rushing...that’s not dominant.

Not disagreeing with you on his use or not use. Last night HE was the feature "BACK". My point is we misused or did not use him correctly. As to finding big fairly fast backs is not easy. These HS players you speak of are looking for schools who run the ball a lot. Over the last few years we have not been that type of program. (maybe some with a Hurd). I feel we will need to prove we can block for a run heavy offense before one of these big type backs will come here.

That is just dumb. The running game is not ineffective or effective because of the qb. The Rb and oline have 90% of the running game responsibility.

The running game isn't effective because every NCAA coach knows that JG can't read a defense, and can't beat them with his arm. He has one throw, the 50/50 ball, that's it. So if you have a half-decent secondary, you can bring pressure all day long.

We've seen it time and again with JG as QB.

Wrong about it all. No need to discuss if you are going to make up crap.

The line played like crap and the playcalling was shaky at best.

We don't even have 50/50 wrs this year. He has thrown great passes at all levels.

Bad second half. But no need to lie.

Making what up, did you even watch the game?

Playcalling wasn't good, but the playcalling is always limited with JG. He only has a handful of throws, and he has the worst accuracy of any FBS QB on passes past 10 yards. What do you expect Chaney to do with that?

Lol...what do you call JG's first TD pass to palmer?

Good thing those passes are not that often. Lets not ignore all the other areas he is good in and that he is accurate on most passes that are thrown.

Your one stat is 10% of quarterbacking. This isn't the 70s Raiders throwing bombs all day.

Also that was before the GA game. He improved his numbers with a few nice downfield throws.

The line and rbs cuff the playcalling.

Yeah, JG has decent accuracy dumping off to his check down man at the LOS which is evidenced by his 60% completion percentage. That doesn't change the fact that he's pretty damn horrible at any other downfield pass other than a 50/50 ball thrown at the sideline. Literally every coach knows they can play within 10 yards of the LOS and shutdown the vast majority of JG's completed passes and the running game.

I'm really hoping Beckwith, Whitehead, or Hodge can give us something soon. They don't need a lot of carries, but just having a big back in to help convert those third and 1s would be big. Keep the defense honest to an extent as well.

He’s not that type of back...that’s what I’m saying. He’s not a BIG back...not even compared to Christian McCaffery. He doesn’t do well with heavy rushing workloads. I see your point as to attracting the applicable type.

Not everyone operates under the same delusion as you. JG has only been horrible beyond 10 yards. Everyone knows this except for you.

When I first started reading your comments:

"hahaha oh man this guy is just messing with this guy."

After reading a few of your comments:

"No way. This guy is actually serious."

Dude....what have you been watching for THREE+ years.....Guarantano has been the prohibiting factor. How that's lost on you is bizarre.....It's really really REALLY weird actually.

Only half true. An ineffective pass threat at QB lets opponent pack the box and also start creeping secondary up to quickly seal any gaps that do open up. Your OL gets practically outnumbered on every play and you have three or four wideouts who are just wasted body count on the field

This argument gets used all the time, but it’s not what was happening Saturday. Why commit Safeties when your D-line is wreaking absolute havoc and changing the line of scrimmage on every snap?

True true, but it’s not like the safeties really need to do too much else 😉

I’d really like to see an All 22 view of some plays from Saturday. You couldn’t tell on TV, but it felt like our WRs got absolutely taken away by the GA defense. Hard to know how much was our WRs getting beat, how much was JG not having time and how much it was JG just not seeing the field.
