Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I guess this is where we differ, I don’t trust Fulmer. He’s a big part of why the program fell to where it did.
I'm kinda with you on this. That big lummox doesn't strike me as being that smart. I'm thinking more like being lucky by being in the right place at the right time...............................twice now.

Are you talking about Fulmer or that knuckle dragger dumbass that they have there now?

Coaches don't last forever; there's an inevitable slide somewhere along the line. I'd be more inclined to think Fulmer "just lost it" or "just got lazy" with recruiting if his recruiting problems hadn't started so soon after he was outed in the Albert Means scandal. You have to believe the negative recruiting by all the other affected SEC teams got brutal about that time. For the record, I believe Fulmer did the right thing in blowing the whistle and burning some other SEC teams in the process. It's a shame that confidential records didn't stay confidential. The records apparently say Fulmer told investigators where to look for violations - not who, what, and how much.

Look at Mack brown. Texas couldn't wait to get rid of him and he's winning at a place that Neyland couldn't revive if he wanted to.

I've always thought there was no such thing as a proven coach, but that a coach at a certain time in a certain place can be almost magic. I'm more inclined to think Mack Brown's success is more about most other ACC teams' lack of success, but we'll see.

Speaking of, I thought Herman was a great coach at Houston. His run at Texas is a hot mess so far. Preseason rankings and fall for the past 3 seasons counting 2020. Would any of us like to trade places with ut right now? They've got fertile recruiting, tons of money and have only 1 rival which is normally playoff caliber. The rebuild and competition at UT is demonstrably more difficult.

Hog knows how tough I was on CJP his 1st 2 years. I still think those criticisms were fair.
I agree with you, slice. You don't broom CJP after 5 years for 2 reasons: 1. we are improving, and 2. UT will not hire a proven upgrade. UT will hire another up-n-comer coaching project.

We've done reasonably well with up and coming coaches over the decades ... including a guy named Neyland. The "proven" one didn't turn out to be an inspiration for some of us, and I couldn't wait for Johnny to come marching home but wasn't that impressed when he did. Major's good years were good, but the bad years were bad, and there was no trend toward better - just a series of on and off years after an agonizing start.

It's a different SEC, my friend. OJT is riskier now than ever before.

If we’ve learned nothing else, the administration isn’t hiring a “home run” and how many of those home runs are winning now?
The people at Clemson we’re ready to can Dabo after season 4 (I think, I’ll have to google) and what he’s doing is awesome but he wasn’t a home run either. There’s only 1 Saban and he won’t last forever.
CJP is as good as we can expect the administration to hire. He will win a lot more than he loses.

How many home runs are out there?

Meyer ain't coming back to the SEC.
TAMU until this weekend was paying Jimbo 75 million for the same results as Sumlin. Same length of time we have Pruitt, and Jimbo was already elite.
The Mad Hatter is chewing grass in Kansas, looking like Kansas.

Pretty bois Riley and Herman ain't looking so hot.

It's a mess. Like someone said, right coach right time.

Interesting commentary by Steve Kiner. Daniel Hood has some comments about chop blocks as well.

I can tell you why they do not eject offensive linemen like defensive players do for targeting, because they want to put on an offensive exhibition. That’s what they want.

They let the offensive linemen use their head and hands a whole lot more than defenders. If you loose your wheels, you’re done. You’re finished. It’s real obvious to me that they allow the offense to do that. They allow the offensive linemen to step off the ball, and the first thing they do, they grab a hold of the defender and hold on to him.

Warning NSFW language in video link.

Better to have a pistol and not need than encountering Mama Mountain Lion empty handed.

She didn't find the growling or "big and scary" comments as amusing as I did.

If you have the Mountain Lion in front you, that's a big victory. They like to go for the neck from behind unsuspecting prey.

Momma wasn't looking to hunt there. She was making sure the big scary man thing was leaving the kittens alone.

Yeah, but one slip and she would have ripped him to shreds.

I wouldn't have shot her myself since she was protecting her cubs, but a warning shot certainly would have been on the menu.

Dude walked halfway up that mountain backwards lol

I've never had to shoot an animal I didn't intend to utilize, but I had an incident with a singular of wild hogs in Colorado about 8 years back. There were probably 12-15 of them and they seemed to have my camp surrounded. I kept having to walk outside of my tent and fire into the air to scatter them, but sure enough they kept coming back. Had to repeat until daylight when I could hoof it to my truck which was about 3 miles away. Probably the most tense night I had camping, and I've had big cat, bear, and moose encounters.

It was really surprising because the hog problem was scarce by then. It's essentially gone now.

I hate our fans. After one loss they are throwing in the towel. Seeing some people question us playing vs Kentucky and Vandy as likely losses now. "Lucky to win one more this year".

Then we turn around and beat Kentucky this weekend and suddenly they think we should be upsetting Alabama. There is NO middle ground allowed.

I found myself wondering what I would do in that situation. I would have fired warning shot, if I was armed, hoping that would scare her off. Without a firearm, I would have shat my pants. I would have been picking up a big rock just in case, while never taking my eyes off the cat, and hopefully not making any quick moves.

We’re beating Vandy but UK is going to be a tough game and a loss wouldn’t surprise me.

It would surprise the eff out of me. They lost to a bad auburn team. Gave up vs Ole Miss. And looked decent vs Miss State after Arkansas gave everyone the formula.

And oh yeah they are Kentucky. Even in our worst season ever we still beat them during their best season ever.

A couple things that will be different from Georgia.
1. We wont be playing the nations best D.
2. We more than likely wont lose our second best defender in the first quarter on a dumb AF penalty, on his part.
3. We wont triple our first two games penalties in one game.
4. We probably wont turn the ball over 3 times.
5. Oh yeah we wont be playing the best defense in the nation. Did I say that already?

People need to settle TF down.

I’ll settle down when we are competitive against the GA,UF and Bamas of the league.
