Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

That's funny... 1971/72 is the year I worked at the McDonald's on Chapman Hwy close to my high school (Young High).

My mom would have been a junior/senior at Seymour in 71/72. She was born in 54. As close as those 2 HS are...you may know her. My grandparents place is off Old Sevierville Hwy from Chapman. Thats where my mom lived then. Near the Pixie (used to be) as a kid, we used to always go there for soft serve ice cream...

Quarter pounder w/cheese and some fries were just 96 cents + tax ...... that's crazy.
I posted on some thread a few days ago that about that same time period, we would play golf at Lambert Acres, and stop and eat at Sis's Grill near the airport on the way back. We got a meat, bread, 3 vegetables and endless tea for 94 cents plus 6 cents tax. One dollar even.

Those were the days when I was making big bucks @ $1.80 an hour. Gas was like 45 cents a gallon.

I didn’t know anybody at Seymour HS but I did have some friends in Seymour that went to Young High. Your mom would have been the same year in school as me, so we might have had some common friends.

I caught the start of the movie the 1994 "The Mask" with Jim Carrey late last night. The only reason I watched the first hour was because of Cameron Diaz is so hot in that dance scene. She was only 21 when she made the movie.

I went to Shoney's for the breakfast buffet. God, that was the best until they closed.
All the bacon & eggs + the pancakes you could eat for $8.00 or so....so Yummy.

We used to find somebody with a car and go to the Shoney's on Chapman Hwy when I was at UT. You could eat at the drive in back then.

That was one of our hangouts in high school. We’d always go there after the cross-country track meets for Saturday lunch. I was the slowest on the team but one of my friends was state champ and got a scholly to UT.

The Shoney's here in Jackson in the 70s had a speaker system to order food & they'd bring it to you.
Kinda like what the Sonic drive-in does now. That place was always hopping w/pretty girls & cars.

Been there, done that. The one event that made me never drink and drive again was winding up at that Shoney's one Sat. night after dark with my girlfriend on the way back from Gatlinburg to U.T. We ate at the drive in there, and I didn't know how I got there after drinking PGA and orange juice while in the mountains. I can't believe that I drove that route to the Chapman Hwy, after dark, and that drunk. I was in my 70 AMX that I still have. It was new at the time.
