I used to rock climb and rapel, nothing like that though.
Was camping on Signal Point (Signal Mountain) as a teenager to go rapelling the next morning and that night fell down a crevice about 10' in the darkl of night. Being dark as I banged off the walls I thought I was a goner. Luckily I got my arms up so they did not break, but broke my toe. As I sat there and heard everyone yelling, I looked out from the crevice about 10' and the drop off was another 100+. We were camping l;iterally on the edge and had a campfire and I saw a tree as I walked, but did not realize the tree was overhanging the crevice

I was dumb, and lucky.

Yep, I think I've had just about enough of the climbing thing today ..... I'm just going to hang out right here.....

Don't forget those pegs that are used for steps .... Lol.

There's a documentary called "Free Solo" about the first guy to climb El Capitan in Yosemite without ropes. Terrifying and amazing at the same time. Seems like the guy memorized pretty much every hand and toe hold on his route before he went up.

I did that pebble climb on a mountain in NC in HS (Cheorkee) , not even close to vertical or height though. I thought where am I supposed to "connect". Oh that tiny little protruberance in the rock.
Granted this was a HS grad field event and later went down Chattooga River in flood conditions. I bet liability would not allow today.

EDit: Roped, not even close to these crazies, but brought back memories

My climbing experience is limited to diving in rock quarries and climbing back up the side when i was a dumb teenager. Lot easier to climb around on a rock when you know your just gonna hit the water again if you fall.

"Free Solo" and my first thought was "Free Bird solo ".....LOL

Was it the Chattooga or the Chattahoochee where Deliverance was filmed?

Back in 1975 or '76, myself and 5 others rented 3 canoes and did an overnight run down a section with pretty rough rapids, I want to say it was the Chattooga... and we nearly lost one of the canoes. It's the one I was in, and it flipped and got pinned upside down in the middle of the stream where we could not get to it, so we doubled up in the other 2 canoes and went on downriver and camped, wondering what it was going to cost to pay for the lost canoe. Next morning, as we were about to head for the vehicles at the end of the run, a guy in a kayak towing our lost canoe showed up and graciously returned it to us.

The summer I was 15 we had a lot of fun quarry diving at Mead's Quarry out towards Sevierville. Until the hoods known as the Quarry Rats jumped us.

Never dealt with any quarry hoods, but I'm sure there were some stolen car hoods (and the rest of the car) in the bottom of our quarry.

Before they jumped us they had popped the hood on my brother's 64 Chevy and took out the distributor cap.

I had ridden there on my motorcycle which was parked where they could have easily rolled it off the cliff.

As it was I ended up with a bleeding head wound from being sucker punched and knocked down onto the rock.

Chattooga where Deliverance was filmed. We went down like Stage 2 in canoes and 3rd and 4th stage in rafts. I may be incorrect in my terminolgy. It was fun but rained the whole time and we wore wet suits. I went to Baylor HS in Chatt and this was a final week long "confidence" adventure.

Had a couple of friends in college years that were guides on the Ocoee so got my dose of it. My buddy on the Ocoee called us the worst crew he ever had with 8 in a raft full of beer and Monica in the middle. We had this inflatible "deathyak" that leaked air and I took a drunken spin. Then Scott does the finale in that leaker at the final rapid right before the bridge. Thought he was gonna die.

Man what memories.

I'm sure the Quarry Rats are fine Trump supporters now.
