If Mike Pence can handle the extra load on him right now and do well in the debate, it could set the stage for Pence 2024.

I really hope not. I know almost nothing about Pence, but I'm not in any way impressed. The GOP needs to continue with outsiders - people who have accomplishments outside politics and law, rather than another rehashed politician/lawyer. I don't like Trump, but I do like most of what he's done as president. Pence on the other hand seems almost the opposite in the ways that I dislike Trump which should be good, but he strikes me as a cold lifeless fish and just another warmed over politician- just highly unimpressed.

At times, I’ve thought he was the mole in the White House.

It shouldn't be. Allowing one candidate to hide away should never be allowed. Cowardice may win an election but it is not leadership
Yes, Biden has a "prevent defense"-like campaign. In a normal election it would be a loser.

But really, how much does traveling around repeating campaign stump speeches reflect someone's ability to do the actual job of being president?

Being able to present your positions and plan to get them done should be an important part of the campaign. Being able to stand in front of a group and answer unscripted questions should be a minimum requirement. I question anyone's fitness to be potus who couldn't even do those basic things

If you don’t have the physical stamina to campaign, you won’t make it 6 months once you take office. But, this isn’t really about Biden, it’s about the democrats finally getting a progressive woman (of color) into the Oval Office.

1) Much of campaigning today is not about policy,

2) Biden is doing some of that.

3) I'm talking about the traditional Constitutional duties of a president.

New Yorkers Close Fifth Avenue to Support Donald Trump as He Fights Coronavirus

A caravan of more than 100 vehicles shut down Fifth Avenue in New York City to support President Donald Trump as he battles the coronavirus.

The long line of trucks, cars, and motorcycles mostly came from Long Island, bringing traffic to a halt for at least 30 minutes as they arrived outside Trump Tower to cheer for him, shouting “Four more years,” the New York Post reported.

The caravan also honked horns and waved flags in support of the president, but the noise stopped for at least a moment when the group called for a prayer.

“This is a serious situation — the leader of the free world is sick. The leader of the free world needs our support,” an organizer said over a loudspeaker, asking those gathered to “send some good energy to President Trump.”

After the moment of silence was complete, he shouted, “President Trump, we love you!” The group then started chanting, “USA! USA!”
