1. Palmer is much more of a possession receiver, but he is a really good one. Sort of a poor man’s Jauan Jennings. We could use a WR stepping up to be the kid who takes the top off of a defense. Hyatt, perhaps?
2. OLine play was exceptional. The one sack JG took was a coverage sack and poor recognition by JG, who did a poor job of evading the rush by stepping up in the pocket.
3. JG was much more efficient. Much better on 3rd down. He had a couple wonky throws, but they didn’t stand out as much as last week because they didn’t kill drives. The one throw where he threw the ball directly to the Mizzou defender (targeting review) was horrendous, but by and large, he was much better and did nothing to put the game in doubt. Good to see him step up and run rather than force a bad pass on plays where no one is open.
4. Eric Gray is tremendously more elusive than Ty Chandler, yet the staff seems married to Chandler, especially on 1st and 2nd down. Chandler is above average, but he generally gets what’s there and not much more. Gray creates yards with vision and elusiveness and their touches ought to reflect that. He did put the ball on the ground, but it was near the sideline and not a turnover. Like to see him used more.
5. Deandre Johnson got another sack, but otherwise, our DLine got little pressure on them. We need to be more disruptive up front.
6. Second week in a row that the opposing QB found WRs routinely open without a defender within 5 yards of them. We have to tighten up that coverage if we aren’t going to get to the QB.
7. Missed a chip shot FG, but didn’t hurt us in the outcome.
8. Coverage teams weren’t quite as crisp as they typically have been under Pruitt.
9. Pruitt looks like Little Bo Peep with his choice of neck gaiter usage.
