Toughest challenge in UT history? (Qb)

JG couldn't blow a bubble out of the water. A lot of folks on here actually watch the games with an open mind and thus are able to see that JG is not nor will ever be an SEC level QB.

Pretty sure Ainge started against Georgia and Auburn. Not sure who got the first snap against Florida. It's a moot point though. It was pretty clear very early that Ainge was the guy. He played the position about as well as a true freshman is going to do it.
He did. He played horrible at home against Auburn and then went on the road as 17 point underdog and beat #3 UGA . The first series he hit Derrick Tinsley for a long completion on 3rd down and then hit Brett Smith for a nice TD.

I usually remember every game, but I remember nothing from that Auburn game. The win @UGA with a true freshman QB was one of the more unexpected outcomes ever. Georgia was loooooaded in 2004.

It’s funny you mention not remembering the Auburn game to me because that was not my proudest moment. I was a student and going in the gates, some freshman who apparently was drinking his first beer fell into me and knocked all of my Jim Beam mini bottles out of my foolproof liquor sneaking system right in front of the KPD and ticket agent. I got tossed in front of everyone and you could say I was a little pissed. Lucky I didn’t get arrested. I do know I went to Gameday and we got our doors blown off by that Auburn team that went undefeated and didn’t get a shot at a title.

Your patented Liquor Sneaking System! :)

I believe Casey started against LSU, GA, and Bama right after facing a scrub in 2000.. Could be wrong, but I don’t remember rankings of these teams.. I do remember him being all freshman SEC

Casey’s first start was vs Alabama. AJ Suggs started the LSU & Ga games.

Alan Cockrell was the first true freshman QB to start a game for UT, against Colorado State in 1981. If he hadn't torn his knee up the next game against Auburn, this thread might have been all about him.
