So tell us how philanthropists like Bill Gates got wealthy enough to gain credit as a philanthropist. You think "what the market will bear" (when MS was in an almost a monopolistic position) perhaps goes in the first part of the discussion? You think any recently wealthy philanthropist didn't think of himself first in building his pot of gold?

I think the larger point is that we all know -- even Trumpsters deep in their hearts would admit this -- that Donald Trump has never done a truly altruistic thing in his life. He has never donated and not taken credit for it. He has never helped someone out purely to help someone out. In every aspect of his life, every single act he has ever taken has been purely for his own benefit.

I disagree. Trump saved us from Hiliary. I can live with that - in fact, I can live with the thought that one deed alone was perhaps the single greatest act of philanthropy this nation has seen.

Sorry, I absolutely refuse to give up the right to hate Islam. The biggest sin the Catholics did was pick a fight with Islam and lose it. One of your elected Islamic "saints" certainly can't seem to learn "that's not we way we do things around here".

If Trump dropped over dead laughing at Biden and the GOP did something incredibly stupid perhaps putting a retread (like Romney) in his place, I'd probably just not vote. Have to say I don't care much for Pence either.

Trump has never been a philanthropist. He cons everyone to benefit himself and that is his life story.

The way I look at charity is that every person has the right to decide how he/she sees fit to use what they've worked for. It's not for you, me, the government, or anyone else to decide how income is to be spent or distributed on others. For the record our charity goes much more to the guy standing in line at a pharmacy who can't pay for a prescription or a server working on a holiday out of need when few others show up - the kind of things that never wind up on an income tax form as a charitable deduction. The kind of charity that doesn't have overhead to deduct from what is given and doesn't show up in the records marking someone as a "philanthropist". You may or may not know the real story about Trump's giving - it can be done privately or for notoriety.

You think Trump might be a privately generous philanthropist? You would certainly be in the minority on that one.

There are plenty of people who are privately or publicly generous. Usually if they are a famous person those qualities are known a known commodity of sorts. Stories come out frequently. Trump just isn’t on a list of those people. Examples that come to mind are Peyton Manning, Warren Buffett, George Lucas, Matt Damon, Keanu Reeves, Robin Williams, Serena Williams, JJ Watt.

I know it’s seen as a virtue in our country to seek fortune, and that’s fine. If that’s your only drive, though, you are flawed in my opinion. To use a charity or university to rip people off or for personal gain... you’re scum.
