Should we manage to get up on Mizzou by 14,

Shrout is currently 2nd string QB.
That was my understanding, as well. Maurer was limited in reps by injury and Bailey by quarantine. Has something changed?

FWIW, it was Shrout holding the clipboard on Saturday following the coaches on the sideline. Maurer was doing his usual cheerleading (not a knock, he is actually a pretty good encourager in that role).

Unless JG plays better, I have a feeling we will be seeing someone inserted before the game is over this weekend.

We have to make plays, at least some more, to score more.

We need to run the heck out of the ball, and use it to our advantage in the passing game. And, we can't squander opportunities that should be turned into plays being made.

I hope JG lights it up. But, I do think Pruitt isn't playing favorites and will play who gives the probability of best results. Period. Regardless of the year and the issues surrounding it, we need a good, no, we need a better than good year this year.

I was led to believe it was Maurer. HB has missed a lot of practice in quarantine iirc
Led to believe by? To my knowledge Pruitt hasn't said or released anything to date on who the backup is. On the latest depth chart he has "or" "or"

JG will lose his job again this year... he finished badly last year with VU and IND, and didn’t look any better against SCjr. He’s a tough kid, but still has poor fundamentals that leads to errant throws, some not even close to being catchable. Going 1 for 11 on 3rd down will get you beat most weekends. Pruitt would be advised to play Shrout a few series this weekend, I just hope it’s with a lead.

Bailey is the future. Not Shrout, not Maurer, they are serviceable at best.

Shrout won the backup QB job on the practice field. You send Bailey in before him, you send a very wrong message to your team. Between Bailey and Maurer, I don't know who is 3rd since both missed significant practice time, but IF we are far enough ahead late in the game, I have no problem with Bailey getting a series or two.

All the people that i have listened to via podcast that are close to the program say that Bailey just isn’t ready . We need to get live game reps for the guys who may have to come in at a moments notice, whether it be Covid or injury .
Yeah - I hate it for him but the dude barely practiced this fall. We'll in all likelihood have to wait to next year to see him play in a game.

At one point Pruitt said that Shrout was ahead of the other backups because he had been able to get the most reps.

Put Bailey in let him get some live game reps, and see what he can do. Being that this year won't burn any eligibility. Thoughts? I'll hang up and listen. GBO!

Bailey is currently 4th on the depth chart. Maybe that changes as the year goes on, but right now he's not getting in the game, regardless of score.

I don't want to see Bailey at all this year. He has had no where near enough pratice with the team. Let him sit back and learn the playbook. No need in sending him in and having a Nathan Peterman situation. I think he gets some experience under his belt and wins the job next Fall and we send a RS Freshmen out on the field that is ready to lead the team and possibly break some records over the next few years.

Imo, if either shrout or maurer had been given the reps in practice this year that was given to jg, one of them would be ready. But from what I have read on the practice reports, jg again has taken all reps with the 1's. Again no one able to actually compete for the job. I keep thinking a light will come on in our coaches heads that jg is a good practice player, but not game player. I read sc forum and they were even saying jg will probably be worst qb they face this year, and if he had hit wide open receivers we would have won by 20 plus points. This is from sc forum.

I agree with the poster who said 24 points. I will add it will be 24 points somewhere in the 2nd half. Pruitt will want to get the 1st team more reps. He will also not want to start a controversy. He will want the game clearly out of hand.

Most don’t want to hear it but this is not the year to throw a freshman in early. I’m as excited about him as the next guy, but with such a crazy offseason where the team couldn’t practice combined with him being in quarantine for however many weeks, there’s no way he’s ready to make the calls this year. People hate JG so much, even after a +60%, 2 TD , no TO game, but just assume that a freshman with less years of experience, practice reps, and understanding of the playbook would have made every throw and performed better. Not to mention that it’s not like JG is the only guy above Bailey. Both Shrout and Maurer have made SEC plays in the time they’ve been given. I can’t wait for this kid to set the SEC East on fire, but it won’t be this season.

Maurer is 2 per just released depth chart for Missouri game. IMO this will be a one possession game only way JG comes out is if he has 2 turnovers.
You could say they just listed by or/or but they are not in alphabetical order and their not in number order and their not in seniority as Shrout has most time. I think Maurer will be one in but it will be up to JG's play. We will not get a big enough lead just hope we win.

Interesting. I figured he'd be lower since the injury had him out and Shrout got more reps.

I dont care if its Shrout, Maurer or Bailey - we need to get up far enough in this game so we can get the backup QBs some playing time before the murderers row begins. Maybe Pruitt things that JG needs all the extra reps he can get with his WRs because of limited practices and to hopefully get a rhythm but I confess I am not confident in the success of that strategy.

I feel basically same way. But, I would like to see Shrout and Maurer play before Bailey does for several reasons. One reason is if I am a recruit I think I would like to see some loyalty to both players to have a little better chance to see what they can do.
Shrout; because I don't think he was given a fair chance last year, and is suppose to have so much potential.
Maurer; because I think he has so much energy and passion, and could be a leader. Have you seen how he is the first one celebrating and congratulating JG when he comes off the field? He ignited some energy and seemed to motivate his players around him while in the game. Yes, he had some questionable decisions and plays last year, but he showed me to be a football player when he dived in for his first touchdown, he has determination. I just like his enthusiasm and style. If I am a player I had lot rather play with Maurer than JG.

Besides, both have to be more comfortable with Cheney offense system now. They both have practiced lot more than Bailey and put in lot of time to deserve some playing time. We are all anxious to see Bailey, but his time will come. If Shrout and Maurer don't take advantage of the opportunity, then start focusing on Bailey.

I just think between those two guys, there is one that could push JG and possibly beat him out. We saw last year he does better with his job on the line.

Yeah I actually got told this by a SC fan last night.

I hope our team is not as confident about being up 14 that quickly than the fan(s) are.

1. Just because they got beat bad by Alabama does not mean we will boat race them as well.

2. We were up 14 to SC, and look how that game went down to the wire.

Let's just go in and hope we get up enough points where some backups can get live reps.
