After sleeping on it some thoughts from last night
1. JG showed some improvement but still has a ways to go on being consistent. ( Not willing to take my crow yet)
2. Wide receivers will be a strength once again.
3. Velus was faster than I thought he was dude is going to be a problem.
4. Chandler and Gray are both still really good.
5. Pass pro from the o line was good, iirc both sacks were coverage sacks due to JG holding the ball. Run blocking needs a bit of work but still was good enough to win. Seeing the line open that huge hole to get that first down late was a welcome sight. When was the last time we had a line do that?
6. I was very impressed with Fant, he got open a few times even though he was overthrown and also I remember hearing his name called a few times for his run blocking.
7. D line played well, at points it looked liked DJ and KB were playing meet me at the QB. There were several plays where they didnt get home but affected the QB.
8. Linebackers, HT is a dog and I thought for the most part did well in getting everyone lined up correctly. Banks played well but has to be smarter. Was a little disappointed with Crouch he does fine when rushing and against the run but struggles in coverage.
9. The secondary, im not going to judge this group too harshly. We had multiple guys out and had to move pieces around. Slaughters only going to get better from this experience. AT held his side of the field down well. Did anyone catch a pass against him? BT looked like BT when he was moved back to corner. I think Tank being healthy next week to see improvement from this group need to get guys back into roles that they are comfortable in.
10. Overall Pass D wasn't to bad with what we had to work with, but I was happy with the run D besides getting beaten outside a few times we held our own when SCAR tried to pound up the middle.
11. Brandon Johnson, I had picked him a few times this summer to be a breakout player and it was a solid game 1 for him. I hope he runs with it and goes off this year.
12. Tyler Baron was a force in the run game hes just got to do a better job of wrapping up tackles. Hopefully by the time is finished his name will be talked about with the last DE to wear #9 for the Big Orange.
13. Having Velus returning kicks and Gray returning punts will pay off at some point this year, two guys that can flip the field quick, fast and in a hurry.
14. I wasn't too disappointed with play calling, guys were open execution wasn't there. Chaney dialed up some good calls all night long.
15. With everything going on an TN having so many guys it its nice to get a W. Also after blowing the 14 point lead and still finding a way to win im not sure some of the teams in the past few years wouldve been able to do that.
Lastly, we are 1-0 there are 7 other teams in conference that would trade places in a heartbeat. Lets get everyone healthy this week clean up some mistakes and put together a full game next week.
