High Hopes

I though JG played much better, but still has a long way to go. He seemed to know where to go with the ball and understands the offense much better. There were some bad throws, and I will never understand why he throws so much heat on short passes that should be finessed

He isnt the best qb, but he managed the game just fine. CJC called a pretty good game but I wished he would have tried running a little more. I was encouraged by JGs play tonight

Which 3 overthrows would have been TDs? Talk about hyperbole at its finest, wow.
I’m gonna jump in here! I’m not the one that said the overthrows would have been TD’s, but every overthrow was at crucial time, hence our 3rd down production. Plus add in that ridiculous catch by Brandon Johnson that bailed JG out of an awful decision on 3rd and short. He is Bipolar to say the least. He will NEVER get us to the next level.

You act like WRs never make great catches. He was 3rd in the SEC in the 3rd down production last season so which is it, did you like him last season when he produced in that same stat?

I think you nailed it. He wasn't perfect, but what college quarterback is? He made some mistakes, the receivers made some mistakes, the whole offense made some mistakes. Normal first game stuff, particularly in this year with this offseason.

Hopefully everyone is more in sync next week after film and more practice. JG just need to continue to make the right reads.

I think in UT fashion as of late, we'll probably win one we're not supposed to, and drop one that we're supposed to win. But, even with that, I don't think last night was a huge surprise to most.

Someone threw up a VN preseason poll, and if I recall correctly, the majority of fans recognize we're still just a mid-tier team from the East.

Pruitt is doing a great job (re)building, but we're still building and our roster still isn't stacked like what one would see in a top-tier SEC team.

How much longer will that excuse still seem valid? 1 more year? 2? 5?

Either he has recruited well or he hasnt. It cannot be both

I’d say CJP thinks JG is less likely to make mistakes that cost us the game. Obviously he was wildly inaccurate at times but then followed those with some great throws - crazy inconsistent. He looks like he’s improved his foot speed this year so I hope they game plan some more running for him. No turnovers is good and i didn’t notice plays where he tried to force it. If he could just consistently hit the open guys on the short and intermediate routes we would have blown SC out.

Plus: He got the ball out much more quickly last night.
Minus: His accuracy was wildly inconsistent. All were overthrows, so we can hope that he was too amped up for the first game.

Time will tell, but past performance doesn’t give me high hopes.

Next Level? Are you sober yet? We do not have the depth, talent, or coaching to even think about being "next level". We were dead last in the SEC just a few years ago. And you call someone bipolar?

What the hell are you even saying? Bottom line...he is less than average and will not improve.
Can you not read? You're crying about his 3rd down conversions, you make a fake news statement that he's the worst alltime in 3rd down conversions and when you get called out on it you give us a bottom line quote with nothing to back it up. Nice debate on your part I guess.

Did I ever say what the next level is? I know where we have been and I know what we have. I’m not expecting us to to championship quality right now, but I do expect us to be better than the bottom tier.

You are obviously the one that can read on here. You show me where I said he was worst all time and the fake news statement. I haven’t cried about anything, simply stating the facts. I’m not debating anything, maybe you can read that.

If we can go 5-5 this year I think it safe to say we are no longer bottom feeders.
Let us agree that progress has been made and that there is always room for improvement at every position.

Not a JG fan, but he played decent last night. He's better than Mauer and Shrout. JG is good enough for 5 or 6 wins this year

HB is the next QB. The question is when. Probably game 1 next year

If we aren't competing for the SEC/NC and Harrison Bailey isn't starting before the year is over, the staff deserves firing. It doesn't cost him any eligibility to play. He is the QB of the future. Why on Earth would you not be playing him if you're not competing to win a championship with JG at the helm? It doesn't even matter for bowl eligibility as every team in the country is eligible this year regardless of wins.

We ran the ball fairly well and had no turnovers and got a tough SEC road win. JG was spotty, but made some big plays when the game was on the line.

A lot better than last year’s start, for sure. Let’s just hope we improve as much as we did last year.

I can live with that

We had 10 yards rushing in the 1st half, we stunk most of the night running the football.

I had high hopes we would beat Bama, Fla Or Georgia at least 1 of the three, but with what I saw last nite we are just average again. And can someone explain Pruitts obsession with JG to me. You cant make silk out of a sows ear.
Georgia looked worse than we did and they played an inferior team compared to USCe. I have not seen a Georgia have this poor of a running game. I think we will improve at most positions because we have a bunch of very talented Freshmen players who can play the game. The Georgia game could be very interesting. We can win that game.

So you seem to think we should of been better even though most of our players missed practice for weeks on in. You work for ESPN?
COVID only in Tennessee? Hmmm, I thought it was the whole country that was effected.
Must not of been in Florida or Mississippi St because they set records????
Cause they set records after missing practice for weeks on in
