The only coaching decision I really had a problem with was the first FG, the one we missed. Fourth and 1, that spot on the field, I was screaming at the TV to go for it. No offense to Cimaglia, but I didn't have confidence he'd make it. Unfortunately, I was right.

It’s one of those decisions where he most likely goes for it if he didn’t have a kicker who hit 85% last year and 9-11 from 40+. If we had an average kicker, he would have gone for it.

Yes the secondary/slot/middle of the field killed us last night... that was really the only place that kept their drives alive was running the slant to shi... he was open all night. Why didn't the coaches try and make an adjustment during the game for this when it kept happening to us every series?

They did. McCullough was finally on the field in the third quarter, and I think that freed Thompson up to shadow Smith. Think he was pretty quiet once we made that adjustment. Still not sure why Tank wasn’t out there earlier. Story was a injury in warmups, but he looked fine to me.

With so few practices, so many out for contact tracing, and NO scrimmages, I am very happy with the win. Lots of stuff to clean up before the next game.
JG played better than I expected. Some great throws and then some boneheaded ones, but no turnovers and even 1 meaningful scramble. If we could convince him 3rd down is really 2nd down, he might get less stressed and stop throwing high. We have to greatly improve on 3rd down.
Glad the first game is behind us and it was a win.

Could not disagree more. We have a great kicker. Not a problem at all to take points there

We turned it over anyway. I would have rather have turned it over trying for that yard than missing the FG. And it's not really hindsight on my part.

I'm not hating on Pruitt for the call, but I think it was overly conservative. I agree with Bruin to the extent that it's okay to question some calls, even in wins. I just don't agree on what he's questioning. All in all, I think it was a fairly well-called game. We won. End of the day, that's all that really matters.
No argument there.

After week one my takeaway is this. Kinda glad we drew A&M and Auburn and not the Mississippi schools. Auburn snuck one out in Ky I didn’t watch but listened and sounded like Ky gave them the game and if A&M can’t do any better than that against Vandy they dont intimidate me. Msst blasted LSU and ole miss scored fairly well although their secondary is blah. There isn’t a team on our schedule we can’t beat if we continue to improve weekly. 10-0 Till we ain’t!!

And if he had gone for it and turned it over? No one would have called it a “mistake”? We’re prisoners of hindsight.
Lol exactly and then people saying Chaney called a bad game..... he put JG in situation to convert multiple 3rd downs for us to go 0 for 8 on 3rd downs..... I mean we had guys running open.... Miss, miss, miss dunno how much better of a game Chaney can call lol

I do think Florida is good, but Ole Miss is not good on defense. Trask is accurate, but super slow... teams with pass rush will eat him up.

The ole miss head coach is at best a good OC. It’s amazing how awfully mismanaged his defenses are. You would think that a good offensive mind would be able to at least help with a defensive scheme. I am guessing that his ego is such that he wants to disprove the adage Defense wins Championships.

If spurrier couldn’t do it, no way in hades is kiffin good enough...

What I know about Kiffin teams is they get better week to week. Like dramatically better. I would expect them to play way better on defense next week. That offense was clicking though. With better defensive play they win that game.

UF offense is good. Toney and Pitts are some great weapons, BUT Ole Miss’s defense is pretty doo doo

Trademark of a clk defense...move your best players to offense and let your DC cobble together a defense. Then not understand why your defense has trouble stopping the opponent. It’s science.

Now that I can agree with. Last night was a easy let the clock run decision that can’t be missed though
Heard a bit of Big Orange Sunday this morning with coach Mathews and he gave credit to Pruitt for calling the timeout and said basically it was a good coaching moment. He said Toa toto was calling the signals and when to snap the ball but that Pruitt noticed he and the entire punt team weren't on the same page. Mathews said he used that timeout to correct that and to also tell all of them to stop with the mouthing and chippiness so noone draws an unsportsmanlike penalty or worse, does something foolish to get suspended for the 1st half next week.

You realize im clearly not in the “it worked” Crowd as proof here with my criticism after a win

This is probably one of your worst takes. He just barely beat the snap with the timeout so it’s not like he lost any time. He saw something he didn’t like and thought it would get them beat. I have no problem with that timeout.

6 tackles ain’t shabby when paired with what you’ve already posted.

Henry reminds me of a guy in the league named Deone Bucannon from Wazzou. He actually played MLB before being converted to a box Safety. Pretty sure he led the pac 12 in tackles one time.

JG keeps throwing high fast balls like that against quality teams and there will be pick-6's. He's just not a good QB, folks. He has flashes and glad for the win. He's a 5th year senior who misses wide open receivers frequently and his receivers bail him out on some of his off target throws as well.

CJP is still not there as a HC either. I think he can be, but he is still making big mistakes as well. The UGA game will be the marker on how the season will play out IMO.

As much as everybody on here hates Kirby, he handled the his current QB situation far better than CJP. You find the one who can get the job done consistently to win the game. Making great young men out of student athletes and winning games are not mutually exclusive concepts.
Not sure I would give Kirby any credit on handling QBs. Considering how he has handled the situation in the past then this year he is so desperate enough to try to find someone who can just manage a game so his defense can win that he promises two transfers the job. This resulted in one opting out while the other is still not healthy enough to play. Of the two he has left he again chose the wrong one to start then stayed with him for a half.

I don’t get the criticism about Chaney either. If the QB and WR were able to connect more consistently, we’d have hung 40+ on them. He put them in position to blow SC out.
