Either Chaney has lost the ability to effectively call an offense, or he just has no clue what to do when JG is going way off his mark.
Your 5th year Senior QB cannot be the stumbling block of your offense.
JG is a 5th yr senior in his 2nd season under Chaney. If he is still over/underthrowing his receivers 9 out of 10 times, I don't think that's an identity problem. Sure, I wasn't thrilled with Chaney's play-calling tonight. I can name a few plays that were out-right stupid, but that doesn't negate the fact that we would have won by 3 scores had JG not made the rookie mistakes he did. This offense has no identity. That's not on JG, this offense should be the one, two, set up with the run. Everything on this offense should be predicated on that. The passing game looks forced and contrived and that puts a limited qb like JG in bad positions.
I see a lot of frustration with JG and I get that but there's much more reason to be frustrated with this coaching staff right now. They are not playing on strengths but magnifying weaknesses in the offense.
They know what they have. Some of those throws were horrid, others were made because pressure forced it, others were busted plays, some were bad routes being run. JG is not a good sec qb. But like I said they know what they have, choosing to pass when the ground game was there is baffling and almost cost us the game needlessly. That's a coaching issue, know your identity and play to your strengths..... We didn't tonight, that's coachingJG is a 5th yr senior in his 2nd season under Chaney. He went 19-31, he didn't come anywhere remotely close to over throwing his receivers 9 out of 10. He missed on 6-8 throws but they didn't go to the other team, ZERO TURNOVERS matter in this league.JG is a 5th yr senior in his 2nd season under Chaney. For all of the “we shoulda won by 14 or 21”... we did play against Muschamp who always has good defenses. We scored 31. Last year we averaged 22.4, 2019 was 19.5 per game. 2018 was 17.8. Were trending up, not sure we left points on the field but I would say we can’t come up empty so many times starting inside the 50. Getting a few of our defenders back will help as well as the D looked porous at times. USCjr is always better the 1st half of the year until their depth shows up, much like KY.
I feel that the game plan was to exploit their young db's, unfortunately JG wasn't the qb to pull it off. Had he tho, we would be talking about Chaney's brilliant play-calling. I am surprised tho that we abandoned the run as much as we did. That's definetely on the coaches not making the adjustments when your air-raid attack isn't working. So much hindsight 20/20 in this game. They know what they have. Some of those throws were horrid, others were made because pressure forced it, others were busted plays, some were bad routes being run. Vegas had it a 3 point game with a 44 point over under, nothing great but a good SEC East road win. Anybody think GA would have gone 75 yards with their new QB carousel on the road midway through the 4th?For all of the “we shoulda won by 14 or 21”... we did play against Muschamp who always has good defenses. I would love to see us score 45 every game, my point was that the offense is getting better, other than the 47 yard field goal attempt which is fify at best, I don’t recall points being left on the field. I do recall some bad throws....Outside of Vandy, that offensive performance isnt beating anyone else on our schedule.
We can't bank on getting a pick-6 and a muffed punt in every game this season to make leaving points on the field less catastrophic.
Right, he didn't turn it over, but how many missed 1st downs and td's did we miss due to his over/underthrowing an open receiver? Since you're keeping count and all.He went 19-31, he didn't come anywhere remotely close to over throwing his receivers 9 out of 10. Our offense scored 24 points. JG doesn’t get credit for our defense’s pick six. This was the same crappy offense that we had last year with JG. The difference is that we somehow managed to win a game while converting 1/12 3rd down conversions. That won’t happen again.I would love to see us score 45 every game, my point was that the offense is getting better, other than the 47 yard field goal attempt which is fify at best, I don’t recall points being left on the field. Vols will take 31 and the win, you guys can take your 24 and a loss.... my 31 beats your 24 every time. Would it make it easier for you if we had lost?... night...Our offense scored 24 points. We had 2 drops, 4 throws where the QB and WRs weren't on the same page and at least 1 that was just thrown too hard. Take those 7 plays away and you're then talking about being 19-24 which would be considered great with 260+ yards. It nor he were perfect but once again, a 4 point victory to open the season on the road is exactly how we needed to start the season. That's 7 game winning drives he's had the last 7 games, 4 of them being away from home.Right, he didn't turn it over, but how many missed 1st downs and td's did we miss due to his over/underthrowing an open receiver? 7 games in a row he's led the winning drive, 7 times with 4 of them being away from Neyland and 5 of them vs SEC opponents. 7 in a row he led the game winning drive, that is not just coincidence. He's played pretty good the last 7.Our offense scored 24 points. JG doesn’t get credit for our defense’s pick six. This was the same crappy offense that we had last year with JG. I get you Pulaski, I do. I know I should be happy with the win ok. It's just extremely frustrating knowing what we could be. You've got nobody Joe Burrow last yr turning into a heisman winner. 3rd string Bennett pulling out a convincing win for UGA, Trask who until last season hadn't seen the field since his 8th grade year blowing it up behind an inexperienced o-line, Stanford transfer Costello leading Ms State in a win over the defending National champions, and freshman Bo Nix winning a shoot-out for Auburn over Bama. That's just within the SEC, don't get me started on the other conferences, I could go on. Bottom line, in the past decade, we've either had good qb's with poor coaching and development or good coaching and development with bad qb's. Atleast, that's the way it appears to me. Like I said before, we have the talent to be a top 10 team. Going forward tho, we have to have a qb that plays like he leads one. Look at Miami. They were a good qb away from being a good team. A lot of fans laughed at them, but they were right. Sad too cause we're a more talented than them at every other position. If we had D'eriq King, I have no doubt we'd prob win ourselves a trip to Atlanta this year.We had 2 drops, 4 throws where the QB and WRs weren't on the same page and at least 1 that was just thrown too hard. lol no. UGA needs to stop flattering themselves. They got lucky as hell that Bennett pulled it off.Vegas had it a 3 point game with a 44 point over under, nothing great but a good SEC East road win. 0-8 on third downs..... he sucked except for a few plays. Everyone saw it. He missed two wide open throws. He went 19-31, he didn't come anywhere remotely close to over throwing his receivers 9 out of 10.
