Vs Mizzou:

Convert our 3rd downs on offense

Get guys back on defense and don't give up another 290 yards of passing

I think we played fine overall, but need to work on situational football and stop being insanely conservative on 4th and short on our own side of the field. Both are costing us points.

We were 3-4 point favorites and landed right on the dot. Some downplay modern USCjr, but that was a solid road win.

GBO!!

Yeah, tonight was strange. We played 75% good football, but the other 25% was SO bad it kept them in the game.

Thoughts on the game (Quick draw, bullet form):
-JG is who we thought he is. He stays away from turnovers, but just has an uncanny knack for overthrowing short, intermediate routes. Frustratingly, at times he looks like he could be one of the best in the league and then looks like a pants pissing freshman.
-The O-Line can just absolutely dominate at times, opening up monster lanes for the RBs.
-Swapping to the other side, we got good pressure on the QB, I particularly liked what I saw from Baron early as a freshman and Deandre Johnson was a monster.
-Looked like we had more guys missing on D then expected, interested to see if we hear more on that.
-As we saw in multiple games today, this season is going to be a roller coaster. Losing Spring practice and having a shortened Fall has/will throw the CFB landscape for a loop.
-Finally, we got the W and that is all that really matters in the end. Most likely the final score should have had a couple more TDs for the Vols, but I’ll take 1-0 any time.

He hit some big throws, didn’t throw interception, made plays with his legs. I didn’t say he was lights out. Take what you can get man especially with new WRs.
He did have a good pass dropped by ramel but he was too high too often. He's inaccurate too much and inconsistent . Seems to rush his third down throws like he chokes under pressure. But put him on bench and piss him off then bring him back in he will play lights out. Damnedest thing

JG missed throws. But...I love Chaney, but he sometimes puts JG in calls that we don’t need him to be in. I know pmaycalling can’t be perfect, but we need Chaney to be really good. The rollout miss to Fant was bad, but we could have run a couple of times they called passes. Plus, I would like a little more creativity.

They happen. He was working whoever was guarding him most of the night.

The play in the first half where The announcers said JG threw it over the wrong shoulder I thought it was an awful route. He stuck his left foot in the ground and then stayed looking to his left. I thought the mistake was on 80

What you got ?

My infallible takes from the game:

1. The slow start thing for Pruitt is over. We won. Every team was sloppy to start the year. Gracious look at Ga.
2. I don’t think too much about the defense being sloppy tonight. Game one, and all that contact tracing had us out of sorts. We were also starting a freshman at star and had to move BT to safety. They’ll be fine.
3. We have some players at receiver. They were open all night.
4. RB and OLgonna be a strength when they settle in
5. JG is still bad. If he’s all we got, we aren’t gonna make as much noise as this team could with better play there

JG is who we thought he was, a barely fair to middlin qb.

We we're due some luck on that punt play. Decade of that sh happened to us
Thought he played a fairly solid game and protected the ball well...didn't see the dangerous throws we saw early last year from him.Threw a few dimes there on the last TD drive we had. But also threw high waaay too much. Luckily that is mechanical and not upstairs. Fix that and we might just have a steady, if unspectatuclar, hand at QB the rest of the way.

259 yards at 8.4 YPA, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs vs a Muschamp secondary is a nice start.

Awful route? He had the defender beat. The ball was supposed to go over his left shoulder he was lucky to even attempt to adjust to the ball most receivers wouldn’t even have the hindsight to know to try and find the ball. You ever played receiver? Making an adjustment like that is hard as heck.

like I said he stuck his left foot in the ground and I thought should have turned his head away from the defender he just shook with that good move

I ask the question I an admittedly questioning way as I might be wrong

but yea I have played receiver so does that really matter ?

Jimmy Holiday will be the first Freshman position player to get a touch this season. I would say it will be an end around play early in the SC game.

Fellas I called it! I actually called it! August 18 I said that Jimmy Holiday would be the first position player to get a touch! It didn’t go like I had said but it made an incredible impact!

Thattaboy Jimmy!
