Clemson's OC is very good at setting up plays, particularly those runs for Lawrence. He also held on to the final drive, the play Lawrence faked the run and pulled up to hit Etienne to win the playoff with Ohio St.I think that's almost always the case with "running quarterbacks". The most glaring exception to my statement was last year's Trevor Lawrence. His big runs looked like they had been carefully planned for defenses that weren't ready for it.
23 Tds 11 ints 137 qbr in the MWCIt's sad that we even consider a player who didn't have success in the Mountain West and who is coming off his 3rd ACL in the same league with the starting QB at Tennessee.
After watching the Gator Bowl replay again I can see a push argument being made, but no way Hill is better than what we will do at QB. The push argument would be any given game JG has proven he can fall apart.23 Tds 11 ints 137 qbr in the MWC

That's on those peopleI don't believe Collin Hill would be starting at UT or finish in the top half of the SEC, but people can put him on a pedal stool if they like.
Just because a writer works for SI doest make him immune to reasons for misreporting.. I remember that report as well, and was diametrically opposed to everything else I've heard about Shuler. I also read many glowing reports about Matt Leinert's talent, but when I finally got a chance to watch one of his games, he seemed to float every single one of his throws. That'll do for comparing major QB busts.Shulers arm strength was over-hyped. ESPN reported that Shuler hit a goal post from the 50 yard line On one knee but the NFL draft report was that he had less than average arm strength. I was following this at the time and was surprised by the draft analysis because I thought Shuler had super human arm strength at the time. Regardless of Shulers speed and strength , Dobbs was a better athlete and more elusive running the ball. Both had similar last year QBR ratings at UT. In fact they both had better QBR ratings their last year than Manning had in any year at UT which I found surprising.
I think our potential at QB is greater but I think they have the advantage at QB before seeing how either plays game one. I think Hilinski is better than JG and this kid took his job so I gave the edge to them. Calling Shuler “good solid” is disdain. Way much better than that. We’re not going to agree. Your time your waste. Not disdain, he was a good solid Qb and more polished as a Qb than Dobbs but Dobbs brought intangibles to the game that made him a better playmaker than Shuler and therefore more valuable to UT in their respective careers IMO.
Which goes to show, a QBR rating is a bunch of bullsh!t. Not surprising, but bullsh!t.Shulers arm strength was over-hyped. I agree. I’m not sure how the Qbr is calculated but I think it is not weighted to neutralize the increase in passing attempts and yards in today’s game vs the game in prior decades.Which goes to show, a QBR rating is a bunch of bullsh!t. Not surprising, but bullsh!t.
I love Josh Dobbs, and Heath Shuler is in my top 5 Vols of all time, as far as my favorite players; but, any type of metric, rating, opinion, whatever that puts either one ahead of Manning is...all together now...bullsh!t.
Objectively looking at his career in hindsight. Dobbs brought more value to his team’s success than Shuler did to the UT’s teams in his era. Dobb’s play masked the roster deficiencies for the Volunteer’s that became obvious after he graduated.Calling Shuler “good solid” is disdain. Way much better than that. We’re not going to agree. Your time your waste.
They are planning on playing. Can’t recall where it was said, but Aubrey Solomon and Middleton have confirmed they are going to play this year. No opt outs on the dl. Would feel even better if @Atlanta VOL confirms tho
Lol. He was a true freshmen who played injured. Keep loving JG who brought us our worst season in the history of our program and looked like garbage our last few games. I can throw five yard passes all game too and have a nice QBR.114 QBR 5.8 YPA Hilinski?!? 56% completion with the 2nd lowest ADOT in the league Hilinski?!? He was near bottom of the league all year!

He stunk and now lost to a MWC QB. Just the facts. Maybe he finishes better, but he was nowhere near JG's level last year and no reason to think he is now.Lol.
