Herd immunity is the goal with any virus that doesn't just go away but it's not a race. There are proven things we can do to slow the spread until the natural herd immunity starts providing benefits or until we get a vaccine.

Vaccinations achieve herd immunity artificially and without extreme danger to the vulnerable... that’s why they’re kind of a big deal in modern medicine over last couple hundred years.

That's just generalized weasel talk. I gave you specific examples of why herd immunity was not the goal. Can you point to policies and/or statements from our leaders in positions of power that support your statement that herd immunity is the goal? This isn't Sweden

I don't disagree with that but to this point vaccinations are not an option. They are part of what I referred to in an earlier post as "until a cure is found."

A really effective treatment would be nice but that too is not at option at this point so we are still trying to chug away at the original goal.

That's different than a goal of herd immunity. If we protect the entire population, how do we achieve herd immunity? It'll never happen unless a vaccine comes along. That's consistent with my theory, not Mick's

You also have to acknowledge what the mistakes are in order to improve in anything. I had to sit through film sessions where my coach picked my performance apart just to play any high school sport, and that taught me a lot about the process of learning that I still use today. It’s crazy that too many politicians don’t have that basic skill.

We have known since March who the vulnerable are and we have known how to protect ourselves. It's the individuals responsibility to take precautions.

Yes, kind of.

The goal IS herd immunity just achieved artificially instead of naturally to reduce loss of life. The problem will likely be that COVID will be with us forever, have some kind of seasonality and antibodies from the vaccine won’t remain permanently effective, so we’ll end up having to get a covid shot once or twice per year.

The one prioritizing themselves is you. Nothing you've said is backed by anything other than feelings- you'd rather protect your own fragility than understand that different people have different views on what they want to prioritize.

You're ignoring epidemiology for everything you post. Epidemiology would imply that the same people die of COVID that die of 99.9% of illnesses.

You're telling a person that has his own opinion that he's immoral, while acting vastly more immoral. There's no misguided rant. You're just a bad person that deserves to be called out.

I know as many people in my close community that have killed themselves over adverse economic impacts (1) as have had the virus confirmed (1). If I want to act in the interest of my community, the science would say I should encourage non-at risk people to get the economy back going and at-risk people to stay at home.

You're too busy trying to throw around science words and your one-sided feelings-centric opinion to consider that situations may be different for people that aren't you. Selfishness embodied.
