Souce's Coffee Discussion Thread

I am having Starbucks Espresso Dark Roast this fine Tuesday morning.

It's okay, just too mellow. I used the same amount as I do the others. Tomorrow I'll make it stronger but it's not something I'll buy again.

I rarely drink coffee, but I've started drinking more to give me a boost to get my exercising in. I have been slowly going through SB House and SB French Roast at home. Not a coffee aficionado like you all, but I like them ok. I don't do anything to them, just straight black.

I was at my parents over the long weekend and needed coffee Monday to get a bike ride in. All my mom drinks is instant Folgers and that might have been the nastiest drink I've ever had in my life. I was blown away by the difference in taste.

Any suggestions for a maybe 2-3 cup a week a drinker to enjoy proper coffee on the cheap?

Get a K-cup machine and Sniper Smooth from Black Rifle Coffee Co.

I am sure there are some good local roasters in the DMV. I like to find the good local ones.

you can find plenty of good stuff at Kroger in the $6-10 range. If you don't drink it that often I'm sure it will last a while.
I like this coffee a lot and kroger carries it.

French roast regular ground 12oz (approx. 61 servings) | Ground | Dark | Heritage | Gevalia

Before I drank Starbucks I drank Folgers Black Silk Dark Roast. It was good and about half of what the Starbucks is. But, it's worth it to me. I'll spend the equivalent of $2 more every 10 days for something I enjoy every day.

Everybody different. I'd never spend what some do on bicycles. Lol. That's not a dig either.

Don't have a Kroger up here, but I'm sure between Safeway, Giant Supermarkets and the Commissary I can find this.

I'm a literal hippie when it comes to protecting the environment @82_VOL_83 so I was looking into a Keurig, but can't figure out how good/reliable/easy the reusable K-Cups are. I can't in good personal faith waste all those plastic cups. Even if it's just 2-3 per week. Any suggestions there?

@volfanbill Also, best thing to do is buy and experiment. Most bags should have a description of what type of roast it is. Typically the breakfast blends are little less heavy. Try Community Coffee, LaVazaa, maybe even Dunkin Donuts brand.

yeah I don't know. We drink so much coffee a keurig wasn't going to work for us.

Generally they either come with or you can buy reusable cartridges that you can pack with coffee of your choice. I have some for my Keurig but am generally lazy. The BRCC coffee's are also sold by the lb as ground or whole bean.

Should have read all the way through. The cartridges seem to work fine with my Cuisinart K-Cup machine. I just hate cleaning them out.

I was going to mention that about the Keurig, but decided not to. They are quite wasteful.

Buy whole beans instead of ground since you will not be drinking it every day, will stay fresher longer.

Yeah, single life in the pandemic made the bike purchase possible. I like the two SB roasts I have, but my method is from the dark ages to get a cup. I need some sort of individual cup machine to make this easier.

Also, if you are using coffee as a caffeine delivery system only, a lighter roast will give you a lighter flavor and higher caffeine content.
