I take it from what he is saying - - neither one is ready.....
"He throws as good as a lot of guys I've been around" Didn't say as good as any of the guys I've been around....
Both are far more talented with far higher upside than the guy Pruitt insist (no matter what) starts and plays no matter how bad, how inaccurate, how rattled, how inconsistent, how awful he has always been and will surely continue to be. Just amazing.Maurer has been slowed by a hamstring injury and “hasn’t been able to operate in all of our team periods” in recent practices, quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke said during a Zoom interview Wednesday. “I think Brian is another example of a guy that probably as a young guy last year didn’t know exactly every detail of what we’re trying to get accomplished, but continued to learn...He’s very talented. There’s no doubt. He brings a lot to the table from that standpoint. I think he’s grown up, and he’s matured. I think that’s a big part of becoming a professional, right? We preach about that every single day, how to be a pro, how to learn, how to study what’s important. I think you’re seeing that in Brian Maurer. He’s got as much talent as a lot of guys I’ve ever been around — the ability to throw the football from different platforms, be able to run the football...We just have to create some consistency with him, and that’s with all of them, but I think especially Brian.”
Weinke, like offensive coordinator Jim Chaney, said Shrout has found comfort entering his second season in Chaney’s offense. “J.T. is a guy that works his tail off,” Weinke said. “This guy, he studies the game. He spends extra time in here watching film. It’s important to him, and that’s evident. J.T. Shrout is very conscious of every move that he makes, and sometimes when you get to be too careful, you start to overthink. I think he needs to continue to trust himself. J.T. can make all the throws...He throws it as good as a lot of guys I’ve been around. I think his familiarity now with the offense is allowing him to operate at a much faster pace right now. We have to eliminate the mistakes, and that goes for all the quarterbacks.”
Where Brian Maurer, J.T. Shrout fit into Tennessee Vols QB competition
Based on their stellar play and practice right? Both are far more talented with far higher upside than the guy Pruitt insist (no matter what) starts and plays no matter how bad, how inaccurate, how rattled, how inconsistent, how awful he has always been and will surely continue to be. Just amazing.
Well I hope he doesn't preform at all this year and forms when he should.I was making a factual statement...JG only preformed decent against 2 team ranked above 50 in defense.. how is that am excuse when we will most likely play at least 7 teams ranked 50 plus and 5 in the top 25 alone????
We were better as a team despite a glaing weakness at QB...and its not just against good team..IU and Vandy were not good team...Well I hope he doesn't preform at all this year and forms when he should.
But he does need to perform better versus good teams. That is a definite. That wasn't the question though.
Typical coach speak. A lot of words with no substance.I honestly have no idea how you read that conclusion into that comment.
He used that same comment in reference to HB I believe. Unless I missed it... the only guy he didn't say it about is JG.
I think it is his way of saying a guy has a high level of talent without hacking off other talented guys he's coached.
Yes.... it is. It’s very funny to see you avoid @whodeycin85 since last year on something he’s brought up several times. Stats say Maurer was better vs top teams. If stats are fact (your words) then you lost at your own game the moment you avoided the statement. Also, stop bring up stats anyway. JG played more so of course he would have the best stats. However here’s a stat you may not like. He threw 8 ints last year. 9 of his 16 tds came vs UT Chatt, BYU, GAST and UAB. Maurer never had the opportunity to look at anything less than an SEC defense.Yea its funny how facts don't change
