As a democrat, I knew every single time who was going to be the very first republican out of the chamber they were meeting in to find a CNN camera . That pretty much told me all I needed to know about McCain .

I went through the same with my dad . ( Parkinson’s ) . The aggravating part was the lack of short term memory but the cool part is he could remember things he did as a kid in vivid detail , so I got to hear things I probably never would have about his childhood .

Sorry to hear about your dad. I was lucky with both of my parents making it to their 90's and being mentally sharp. That has to be heartbreaking.

I work with dementia patients and it it much better on the person to have dementia and a healthy body than it is to have an able mind and a body that failed them.

My mother always said that she hoped that her body didn't outlive her mind. It didn't. She stayed sharp until the end at 93. I think it may be easier on the patient to lose their mind first, but emotionally harder on the survivors. I have cared for both of my parents and my brother, who all died with their minds intact. That isn't easy either, but at least they knew me.

I don’t have to give you any advice , just enjoy every min of time with him , even the aggravating parts . I’m 100% with McDad , I’m available to lend an ear anytime . Sometimes I just needed someone to sit in front of me and let me say all the things I needed to say that gets built up . It helped me to “ reset” .
