Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

Hey, Tech lost...Big deal...That OU team was ready and got the job done...They played a fantastic game...Still doesn't take away from Leach being a good coach...He just got beat this weekend, It happens....Kelly who seems to be peoples golden boy got massacred by them as well...Coaches are going to lose now and then..I still support Leach to be our HC in 2009

Difference. Kelly = BCS

Leach going on 10 years without even winning his division...

Nice to see you show your face finally though

What do You mean "Show my face finally" I work for a living...And that includes weekends..And when You get old enough to leave the yard by yourself, You will too...Kelly is winning a conference that Kentucky would have a chance at winning...Still...Not impressed yet...I like Kelly but not enough to go nuts over him...But I wouldn't be mad or anything if UT hired him

Kelly has better athletes on D than TT. Kelly still got killed. Kelly was also got blew out by UCONN. Im still rolling with Leach. And the Big East shouldnt have a BCS bid. The MWC is better. Thats like winning Conf-USA.

yeah, tell Auburn that who has only lost to South Florida and West Virginia in consecutive years.

or tell that Oklahoma last year after the Fiesta bowl......or to Georgia who lost the Sugar bowl a couple years back. or to KY who has made a living usually losing to L'ville each year.

the Big East won't get confused with the Big 12 or SEC anytime soon, granted, but to imply that they are the sisters' of the poor or something is false.

West virginia, South Florida, Louisville, Rutgers, Cincy and Pitt have all had decent success and have beaten their fair share of other BCS league teams in the last 4-5 years and have legiamized the league for now.

as for Cincy vs. OK.......not that it matters, but i doubt Kelly will care when they're playing in the orange bowl with a bunch of kids that would probably rank in the 40's or 50's, or worse, if you checked recruting rankings for Cincy the past few years, compared to OU who's knocking down top ten class year in and year out.

This year the BE sucks no matter how you put it. South Fla is down Pitt sucks, WVU is down, Rutgers is back to mediocrity. Cincy is winning a second tier conf. Their automatic bid should have been revoked years ago.

Dude on The Herd just predicted TT vs UF NC game.... He said OU will lose @OKST thus putting TT in the Big 12 title game and they would leap Texas via conference championship and head to head victory.

Just passing along...

1) I work every day for a living, thank you very much.

2) You were around posting before the game but disappeared during the game. I can't imagine why.

Cincinnati getting an automatic bid to the BCS over teams like Ohio State, USC, Texas, OU, Texas Tech, Georgia, etc. is a joke!

Tell that to Georgia.... or hell Oklahoma

Then that dude is smoking something illegeal. Florida/Alabama vs. Oklahoma in NC game. Book it.

just like it was a joke when we didn't go to a BCS bowl in 01...? The rules are the rules. Kelly is about to win a BCS conference and get an auto-bid to a BCS bowl

it's not as good as it has been the past two years, agreed. but they have an autmatic bid because Miami, BC and VT legitamized the conf. back then. they count on L'ville, WVU and PItt to carry the weight.

it still doesn't discount what Kelly has done with Cincy this year. they're, at worst, doing what they should do when the conf. is down at the top. and they're doing it with what most of us would consider 2nd tier talent.

and they're still going to hang a Conf. title banner and get a phat check from the BCS.

Dude is off his rocker.

yes some of those other teams are better than Cincy.

but there should be a reward for winnning your conf. as soon as we elminate the conf. title from meaning anything is when the whole thing goes to the birds.

then all it really is, more so than it is now, is a glorified popularity contest.

my advice to all those teams that are going to miss out on the BCS this year while a team like Cincy and Utah and maybe Boise St goes........

play harder next year.

but conf. championships should count for something.

i mean they're not going to keep our the ACC champ, and it could easily be argue that the ACC is the worst BCS conf. this year.

what if Mizzou wins the Big 12 title game? OU and TX are still 'better' teams right?

leave as much subjectivity out of it as possible i say.

You are probably right but it is certainly more possible than you seem to think..... OKST is not chopped liver! Adding to his point, he said all the home teams have won the big games, outside of OU/TX which was neutral.

A few things that need to be explained to some people in this thread:

1) The Air Raid offense is NOT a Run N Shoot system.

2) The only thing apparent to me after watching the TT/OU game was the disparity between talent levels. Face it, TT is basically a Mississippi State when it comes to the B12. Texas, OU, OkSt, A&M, Mizzou, Nebraska, and even Kansas now will all compete for the top tier talent in that conference, not to mention teams like TCU and Houston that are in-state. Mississippi is an extremely talent-laden state, much like Texas (although the size alone makes Texas much richer) but how many of those 4 and 5 stars does Croom pull out of his home state?

It's extremely hard to recruit a young man to a school that really has ZERO athletic tradition, is about 500 miles away from the nearest metropolitan area, and is basically one huge dirt desert.

If YOU were an 18-year-old highly touted WR, would YOU wanna go to Tech?

3) The spread offense was DESIGNED to be used against a big, fast, physical defense. If I hear that argument about the SEC defenses blah blah blah won't work in this conference blah blah blah...

The spread worked for Urban at Utah with inferior talent because it was a good, proven system. Now he's employing it at UF with superior talent and you all shouldn't be so blind to see how dangerous it really is. The worst thing you can do with a big, physical, fast defense is to bunch them all up in the middle of the field and run right at them. The whole theory behind the spread is to stretch the defense and find holes and seams in their coverage, take what they give you, and force them to tackle in the open field.

If you think the spread is a gimmick, let me arrange for you to talk to the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, and all the other NFL teams who are using the spread these days. Last year's Pats team ran out of the spread almost exclusively. Think about all the times you saw Brady in the gun last season?

4) While Leach clearly prefers to pass, he is NOT against running the ball. In fact, in an interview before the Texas game (in which they ran the ball successfully, mind you), Leach stated that he was actively scheming to involve the running game more because he had two capable backs and it would be a waste to not use them.

Leach is no fool; and dare I say he knows more about coaching the game than anyone on this board unless the corpse of Bo Schembechler has broadband and is posting under an alias.

5) Do you really, honestly, truly think Leach doesn't care that his defense is subpar? I mean it's not like he $%!-canned his DC last season after a pitiful performance mid-season.

He knows he's at a disadvantage right off the bat trying to get a 2* corner to match up against a 5* WR, but Leach also knows that his only chance for success is to suck teams into a shootout and hope that his offense is schemed and disciplined enough to have more bullets than the opposing team, or to hope that somehow the D can force a turnover.

Leach has long stated that his philosophy is to use his best athletes on O. IF he were at UT, first of all, not only would he have better talent, but I'm sure he would have access to better DCs.

Sorry for the long post; I've just been reading 150+ pages of the same regurgitated horsecrap for so long that my brain is toast and I had to say something.

Deuces.

And the MWC sucked when Meyer dominated it. So what!

No You can't imagine why that's why You shouldn't assume things like that...I saw maybe 10 minutes total of that game...I do not need to explain to You why I wasn't here or why I am here or whatever...It's none of you're business...Fact is I am here now and always show up regardless...I am still trying to figure out why You get the idea I am a Texas Tech fan and why I would be so intent on watching a game that has nothing to do with the team I root for besides the fact that their coach is a possible UT HC candidate...If you are only going to talk trash because Leach's team lost then that's pretty weak considering EVERY coach We are considering has lost some games this season.

I agree with all but the highlighted part. Utah...inferior talent?? They lead the conf with the most talent.

Correct; they do dominate the MWC much like Boise State dominates the WAC -- BUT, when Urban was there and they went to a BCS bowl and finished #4 I don't think anyone thought they had better talent than their other BCS counterparts...same as Boise when they shocked OU.

But I can't say I disagree with your statement in general. I don't think they have talent on par with what we have access to here at UT, though.

Good point.

so we're clear........i don't want leach either, though the reasons seem to be way different......you don't want leach because he's smarter than you, and you wouldn't have any idea what he's talking about? you want some one around here to dumb it down for you?

that's sound.

two things........1. it was an OOC game, played in Norman with ahtletes on OK's side that man for man are just better than cincy's. 2. Brian Kelly has a team of "average" players, if you go by recruiting rankings anyway, 1 game away from a BCS game and a Big East Title.

i'm not going to slurp on Kelly too much, but i can say with 100% certainty that i'm much more impressed with what Brian Kelly has accomplished than what Mike Leach has accomplished.

So your saying Leach has top notch players? Well I can give you the answer, and its no.Graham Harell was a 3 star QB, yet he has become a great QB despite his perfomance against Oklahoma.I believe Michael Crabtree was a 3 star recruit too, if I'm not mistaken.
