The Atlanta Braves

It could be that AA is thinking even if we give them Waters or WillyC or both(which would be nuts) you're still looking at having to beat the Dodgers. Fried and Clevinger would work at 1 and 2 but who do you have at 3? Anderson? Thats a lot of pressure on a rookie. Hamels? No guarantee hes going to be there. I would have been all for a deal if we still had Soroka but I'm afraid our WS chances went up in smoke when Soroka got hurt

That’s a fair point plus with COVID it seems like a huge risk.

But the nice thing is Clevinger has two more years after this. It’s not a rental.

Man I really like Bundy. Hasn’t given up hard contact this year, team control through next year. Probably won’t cost a lot in terms of prospects.

Grow bats, buy KNOWN pitchers
Really is true. Everybody dreams of growing an Ace and controlling them for 6 years, but there are probably only about 20-30 legit Aces out there and the hit/miss on quality starting pitchers is absurd compared to hitters.

And not trading these “potential” aces has killed us. The value of what we could have gotten for trading Touki, Wilson, Gohara, Bryse...we could have gotten somebody awesome.

And when you do develop a string of frontline starters, odds of them all being healthy aren’t great. See the Mets.

After making the WS in 2015, the Mets had

Harvey- 26
DeGrom- 27
Syndergaard- 22
Matz- 24
Wheeler- 25

They’ve zero playoff games since.

I agree. We always overvalue our own prospects, but it sure seems like a couple of those assets should have been used in 18 and 19. Even if they turned into decent pitchers, there was never going to be enough room in the 2021 starting rotation for Sorkoa, Fried, Folty, Newk, Gohara, Touki, Wilson, Anderson, Wright etc.

We were going to get Yelich but AA held off and wanted to “evaluate” the prospects. Like part of the reason you build a farm like the Braves did is to go get a star. And the best prospect we’ve traded is (check notes) Kolby Allard.

What’s hilarious is AA traded everyone in Toronto, then went to the Andrew Friedman school of hoarding players and won’t make a worthwhile move.
