Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

Which is worse, losing by 50 to Stoops and OU or losing to LA-Monroe?

Nov. 17, 2007 La.-Monroe 21 Alabama 14

I'll still take Leach.

There's quite a bit of shame in surrendering 402 yards of offense to your opponent in the first half as well.

423.....I owe you an apology from the summer. I think Coleman showed some toughness today in his first action. I submit that you were correct about this young man and not mearly rooting on the local kid.

For one thing, Alabama was rebuilding with a new coach. Texas Tech is #2 and at the pinnacle of their success. Undefeated with their stable coach who has been there for a few years. And they lay this stink bomb. That smacks of something wrong in the preparation or a just a horrible matchup. One game doesn't sink a ship, but it doesn't help my perception of him.

I agree. It's ridiculous to evaluate anybody based on one game, but this is so bad that you have to wonder if it might not be a PR problem. Hiring the guy that lost to Oklahoma by 60 points a couple of weeks ago would be a tough sell.

Leach has been my top choice for weeks, and I must admit this is a bit unsettling, but I still think he is as good a choice as anyone short of Cowher or Gruden (which I doubt we can get).

My point with the AL/ULM reference is that strange stuff can happen at any point. Remember Appy over Mich and Mich over FL last year?

Don't let this one game make the decision on Leach.

You are clearly a 55 year old who is either drunk, or has the intelligence of a 5 year old. You open a new account and immediately start spewing crap (in the wrong thread no less) about your opinion. Tell me noob, why is your opinion so much more correct than anyone else's here? Go back in your double-wide and pop another Busch open. You're out of your league here.

You won't give a second thought to hiring Kiffin because you have "issues"... . What a load of crap.

The fact that I have fewer posts than you (or anyone else) is irrelevant. This is not the "wrong" thread, since I started it elsewhere, and the mods moved it here. Take it up with one of those guys who are 55 years old
and are either drunk or have the intelligence of a 5 year old (why do you like the number "5" so much?

Anyway, my point is that a track record is less important than being able to spot and hire coaching talent. Look at Saban's early record with different teams...nothing outstanding. Even with Michigan State, his record was not overly impressive. However, he was always a coach in demand because someone had spotted coaching talent even though his record was short, and umimpressive. Kiffin is in the same mold.

Now, stop the insults, and talk football.

and what you all saw tonight is what happens when leachs teams play a very dominate or dynasty like team...the kind he'd see playing UF yearly and possibly bama and lsu (assuming they recover next year)

or like when they played Texas earlier this year?

good pt.
only team on either side of the Mississippi that could challenge OU is florida. And that includes Bama, Roll tide would keep on rollin to the locker room.

The beat down that TT is receiving tonight would have happened more this year if more Big 12 teams had a defense. I have said all along that if TT was in the SEC Leach would not have been undefeated and TT would of had 2 to 3 loses. Defense wins big games and the SEC has enough defensive teams that would have neutralized TT offense. The clock has struck midnight and Cinderella has lost her glass slippers.

the only D that i could see stopping TT is LSU and UF. anybody else would be so confused they'd have DT's covering the slot.

I disagree.

Do you realize that prior to today OU was ranked 55th in the nation in total defense?
Do you realize that UT is 7th?

I just said this in another thread, but it bears mentioning here. He's now gone nine seasons without a conference championship. He has to beat aTm and/or the bowl opponent have his first season with less than 3 losses.

Texas is like us when we're good...we have good teams but both don't reach the world beater power status and Texas - like us - tends to screw it up and lose to some team they really should beat.

Texas is good...but it's like ut/uga good. Not Oklahoma/Florida/USC dominant both sides of the ball insane.

Tonight OU didn't play like they are ranked 55th.

Tonight...

...but against a great, great offense...

but, still...

Tonight....

It's so hard to quantify defenses though. Outside of Florida, who in the SEC has an offense that is even remotely close to half the teams in the Big XII?
