Someone said in the comments that one wiped out a town in WI in 1871 killing 1500 people. I had no idea anything like that was possible.

Of course it's politics but I don't think it's the electoral variety. More like the politics of who is in charge and who wants what. They have a new commissioner who is being eaten alive by the various players. This is the kind of politics that broke UT for so long. Behind the scenes, back-stabbing variety for personal gain -- nothing to do with Ds and Rs and everything to do with personal power, individual agendas, and individual pocketbooks.

Apparently there's a book about it called Embers of October and a museum. And it happened the same day as the Chicago fire!
