Funny I lived there for 15 years and never heard that term, just Kodiak Island.

To be honest, for years I never did either. I was doing some research a couple of years ago on the differences between Brown, Grizzly, and Kodiak bears, and that was the first time I saw it called Kodiak Archipelago.

Oddly, there is not an island in the Philippines archipelago named Philippine Island.

I will add that Kodiak is gorgeous, I'd post 50 pics of it a la McGill but that was when you took pictures to be developed lol

An archipelago is a group of islands.

Answer - there is no genetic difference between Alaskan Brown Bears, Kodiak bears and Grizzly bears. Only difference is habitat.
