Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

A lot has happened over the weekend so they will most likely get back to it tomorrow at 9am

you don’t want to get me started on the politics at our University. Laughable to me that all these academics can’t understand where their bread is buttered.

This week should be interesting

Fire a couple of professors then ask who wants to be next then just even think no football then YOU GONE

While maybe true for you, that is just an inaccurate description of how it works. Vast majority of fan spending is related to top level players.
True to the extent that economics are tied to winning. If you can win big with average players, then you don't need superstars. Having talented players makes it more likely you win. We're all playing a shell game when we talk about who means what to the game. It's absolutely true that revenue is more when a team wins than when they lose and everyone should be able to admit that. That doesn't mean the power lies with the players. Most kids that play college ball do not have the NFL in their future. Simple truth. Therefore, most players rely on their education after college. The superstars with NFL careers in their future are a vocal minority, but still in the minority.

A new joint statement of all P-5 conference players.

This could be a mini revolution that stands up to all the covid hysteria.

The media will have to address it.

What are they going to say? "You don't know what's best for you!" "You're not safe!"

Then you ask them how they are not safe.

"Because SOME studies say a player MIGHT have life long problems after getting the virus...."

Starting off with excuses before the season even starts....bench him dude!...you’re a 4 year starter (veteran) the issue isn’t your memory of the playbook or scheme you’re just blind and overthrow wide open receivers.

Given the number of OCs and playbooks JG has had I'm pretty sure JG is mocking Brady for whining about having to learn a new playbook after a billion years.

I mean you can make excuse for him which is fine...but be prepared to get flamed 🔥.dude isn’t good and has costed us games that should Have been won and could have been won with better QB play, not to mention he has only beat one relevant Team (Auburn) in the last almost 4 years In the sec lol 🥴😁

That wasn't an excuse. I just told you what he was saying/doing. You read the tweets wrong.

The problem isn't the players. It's the fans. Contrary to popular belief the money schools make does not come from TV. That money is peanuts (less than 10 percent of revenue). The money comes from bringing in fans and if there's no safe way to bring in fans there will be no football. TV won't be able to offset the cost, especially for smaller schools.

I want football as much as anyone, but this isn’t true. Research expenditures at UT are triple the revenue from all sports. In 2018, UT clocked over $260 million in research dollars. Plus Hart (I think) cut out the $6+million/year the athletic department was handing the academic side when he was here.

UT Announces Record Year for Research, $260M in Expenditures | Office of Research & Engagement

People who should know better are also confusing ADMINISTRATION for academia. They are not the same.

Huh, The broadcast deals of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), running through 2032 across various networks, were worth $8.8 billion in 2018.

8.8 Billion is peanuts?

NCAA broadcasts are through the tourney which they host and own the rights to. Individual schools aren't making bank from any NCAA contract. March Madness accounts for pretty much all of the NCAA's revenue. The NCAA has nothing to do with football's post-season or tv contracts.

Gotcha, well I just looked at the UT treasury report for 2019 and UT has over 5 Billion Dollars in assets so.... I’d say UT is fine.

Even UT will experience an extreme shortfall without fans (the athletic dept anyway desperately needs fans in attendance). The money made from the SEC network wouldn't offset it at all. Football makes its money via the gate and for the profitable schools that is usually 80-100k+ fans during home games. Basketball makes money that way too but it isn't as drastic because basketball costs a lot less. TV money offsets things a lot more there even without the tourney bc basketball is just a ton cheaper. That's why even small schools will dump money in basketball. The payoff there can be huge while the cost/risk is much lower than with football.

What these conferences are trying to do is figure out how many fans they need and whether or not they can fit them inside and sell them conscessions. If they can then we will have football. If not then football won't happen. Players are easy to take care of and test (well except for the schools that are small and won't be able to afford the testing required).

This makes sense. Maybe like someone suggested they can offer a better viewer experience from home with propositioned cameras etc for some revenue to offset some of the loss?
