I know a couple guys with their knees shot to hell that would love to get medical attention too.

Yes, obviously it’s “game” but to sit here and ignore everything surrounding the game is retarded. Take a look at the big picture and this is a job for these guys. Their life centers around football and the chance to go professional.

You seem to just view them as cogs in a machine that exists solely for your entertainment. As soon as they’re done with your school, you could care less what happens to them.
I played a contact sport in college and worked a job. Dont lecture me on things you simply hear. They pick the SEC style football because it's the best chance at a path to make millions. Should schools get a cut of their professional earnings for providing the referral, training and exposure required?

Also its *couldn't care less.

I wish them the best but just like the current team and students dont care about me, yeah move on in life.

I laugh every time I hear how players put their bodies or their lives on the line "for our entertainment". The potential to make ungodly money playing a game part of the year has absolutely nothing to do with it.
The potential is very limited. Most guys are out of the league after a couple years. Then they’re like the rest of us schmucks but probably have worse knees, backs, shoulders, etc than 95% of us

The guy is ridiculous and fairly ignorant. Perhaps hes a youngin. idk.

I think it would be a fair compromise. Personally, I would like to see them get care for anything though.

For instance, I think trey smith should be allowed to get care for his blood clots the rest of his life courtesy of UT. That guy is literally putting his life on the line for our entertainment and the school is profiting off of that. On top of it, he’s an unbelievable representative of the school.
Well, if we just take Trey, consider he is getting his degree and working to make millions in the NFL. He should be able to pay for his healthcare either way. What the hope is is the other players are working to get their degree so they can provide for themselves even if they don't make it in the NFL. But I don't see anything wrong with the university providing care for injuries they suffered while there if they are unable to do so. That's just goodwill. But the goal should be for athletes to use their skills to get an education to be able to provide for themselves.

The argument the whole time was more around long term/lifelong health care for the players
Not trying to get political, but I'm going to guess you trend socialist. In a perfect world, everyone gets their needs met. Unfortunately, we live in reality, and reality says this world is far from perfect.

And we're supposed to feel bad because they spent all their money irresponsibly and didn't save a dime, right?

If they are cancelling football, then basketball will be next. If it's over, I wish they'd postpone instead of cancel-- wait for a vaccine and start later.

Nope! Kill it all. I want to see it all brought to their knees. They all make too much money and it is no longer a college sport but a pro feeding ground if they get what they want. It is time to get sports back to where they should've stayed. Tons of kids will not get an education or any opportunities in life like what they get now because of their selfish entitlement. I can keep my money and do other things like watch high school sports with kids who play for the love of the game and pride of their school. Kids who want an education can now go to college to take advantage of getting something they work for. If they go this route, then kill it for all of the kids. I can go to places and enjoy the beauty of this country instead of wasting time with all the pricks. Refunds for all and no more rewards for guys who wouldn't sniff a six figure salary without sports.

I’m aware it’s couldnt. Guess autocorrect got me.

The current team and students don’t watch you on a weekly basis or read websites about you like you do with them lol.

The players could go anywhere and succeed because it was their talent, drive, and some luck that got them the big professional earnings. The school’s payment is that fans pay to come to the games to watch guys play.

That last part is not true at all. Have you ever done factory or construction work? That takes a ridiculous toll on the body, and those workers don't get free rehabilitation for their ailments.

The students and team dont care about me anymore because I'm 12 years removed and the schools team is the schools team. Not the players team. It wasnt my glory when we won. It was the university's and it was an honor to wear the jersey. I don't expect the university to cover my bad ankles when they go to sh**. I chose the play the game and I loved it when I did.

We also live in a reality where power 5 schools have the money to provide healthcare to former players that need it. I’m well aware of everything these guys get in school which is why I don’t think the school should pay them. They did sacrifice their health for the chance to make it professionally BUT they did it at a time when they were young and healthy and the school profited in a major way off of that. The additional thing schools should provide is health care to former players. Pretty simple and moral request to meet

What does that have to do with players (who put their bodies on the line for your entertainment) getting healthcare?

No one forces them to do it. They have a choice. They can quit. Problem solved for them little bleeding heart. I got a job and got healthcare from that after college. I own a company and pay for my own. I could've made a choice not to play at all and wouldn't deal with a lot of things I do now but wouldn't trade the memories and the fun I had just to be safe without chance of injuries ect.

I thought they put their bodies on the line because they love to play the game and for the furtherance if their ambitions..

If guys are getting a free education and healthcare to play ball..then they should play ball or forego the free stuff. How long is this bull💩 gonna go on? It is ridiculously interminable at this point.

Hell..I wish they would just tell guys that are scared to go on with life to go home, that is their perogative, and give the crap to guys that want to play...I am pretty damn sure they would not have trouble finding guys to field a team at most major universities.

I wish the NFL would field a minor league, and develop their own players (I won't care, because I hate the NFL and don't watch it unless it has something to do with cheering on former Vols) so we start to get away from this mercenary crap.

Sick of all of it..have a nice day..

That's your argument? The schools have funded the amateur activity for over a century. Remove Trey Smith, the same people watch the game. Remove Peyton Manning and we all still tuned into Tennessee football. The lack of success of another league destroys your player argument. Without the schools reputation and fanbase, no one cares about "Player X". Data is against you. Tim Tebow at the Citadel doesn't have the success the Tim Tebow at Florida had. It's not hard to see why.

If the players that signed up for this United bull actually quit, nothing would change.
Exactly

Not really. What about players who destroy their bodies with drugs? Should schools be responsible for that? What about players who don't take care of their bodies? School responsible? If you want to put the school on the hook for all medical care, then they should be allowed to set requirements for how these guys live their entire lives, not just the time they're in school. And that would be ridiculous. Morality doesn't play into this, and nothing about it is simple.
