Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Got yanked going 85 on I85 today right thru the middle of Charlotte proper. Speed limit is 60 thru that stretch but traffic in all but your right lane runs 70 to 80 at all times.

I asked him to please cut me some slack, told him honestly I was looking at my phone and didnt know how fast I was going.

He said 85 in a 60 could be reckless driving..better slow down. Let me go with a verbal warning for which I thanked him profusely. Apparently he could tell I was struggling a bit as he said "whatever you're going thru in life, it will get better. Be safe." And walked away .

He was a black sherriffs deputy BTW, who almost never pull anyone over in Charlotte. I dont think they are even supposed to do traffic stops here unless someone is doing something dangerous like reckless driving. The only reason I mentioned his race was because some of the racists here like Ktown would say my warning was just "white privelege ". I am pretty sure black cops arent involved in giving out white privelege...at least not what my WP handbook states.

There are lots of good cops out there. All shapes and colors. They deserve our support. Yall may recall my recent posts about thanking cops lately for the job that they do. I have been doing it regularly since this bullcrap began. Most are good guys that dont deserve a fraction of the sheit they have to put up with. Go Vols

There are threads for this, buddy. This is the only one we don't bring it into.

@marcusluvsvols I again have to rail on your people again.

I got another RFI today about some dimension discrepancies. This happens a good bit with dimensions getting moved around in details or whatever, so it should have been a legit question.

The RFI asks

Drawing 1/A1.1 shows the recessed wall be 12'4" long. Drawing 3/A5.3 shows that same recessed wall to be 6'0"+ 6'4".

Which is correct?

I am having to do simple AF addition for these clowns.

Here is a video of Toni Cornell, the daughter of the one and only Chris Cornell, performing a cover of Pearl Jam at Lollapalooza's live stream a few days ago. She is incredibly talented, just like her pops.

Awesome. She's got the Cornell pain in her voice thing going on like her Dad.

Couple things bro. You have good taste and seem to be an old soul. I grew up as a teen to this grunge. Pearl Jam 10 is one of the best albums ever. 7 or 8 GREAT songs.

Black is my favorite. Then Garden. The pain in Black is real. It hurt Eddie. You can tell. Release is also very deep.

Chris Cornell was arguably the best front man ever. 5 octave range ? Amazing singer. Hunger strike above was a solo project with Chris..Eddie...and 2 lesser known Seattle musicians together as Temple of the Dog.

Chris and my lil bro killed themselves real close together. I was already in a dark place before they left. 9 weeks later cancer took my Dad. I am glad I have kids. Kept me from joining them. Music is powerful.

Thanks. I listen to a wide variety of music. I can go from bluegrass to grunge to Daft Punk without blinking.

I've argued with people that Chris Cornell has one of the best voices of all time, and I am completely serious. I don't normally get invested when celebrities/musicians die, but when Cornell and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park (one of my favorite bands in high school) committed suicide, it really bothered me. Same with Prince's death, another insanely talented person.

Condolences about your brother and Dad. Death is hard enough to deal with, but when someone you care about commits suicide, it is on a different level imo. One of my best friends from high school killed himself a few years ago, it isn't easy to deal with.

I've been thinking about your post since yesterday. I went on a bit of a bender of Chris and Pearl Jam, music like that, since yesterday. This morning, I came across this tribute to Chris from Eddie Vedder. Music is definitely powerful. Especially when it hits home. When Eddie sang, "Come back. Come back," not gonna lie, I lost it thinking about my friend. Such a great tribute.

I too like daft punk. Such cool nerds. We have mucho overlap in our musical tastes apparently. If you get a chance, after this virus bullcrap passes, go see TOOL on this current tour...no matter what it costs or how far you need to drive. They already hit Knoxville and Raleigh before cutting the tour short...but they will be in the south again when they resume. Best show I have ever been to...and I have seen a bunch.

You listen much to Alice in Chains? They were actually my favorite Seattle band in the 90s until Layne died. Listened to them and Rage a bunch growing up. Favorite Alice:

Entire unplugged album.
Man in the box
Would
Down in a hole
Rooster
Nutshell. Check this out if never heard.
No excuses
Edit: if you like alice, check out these 2 songs from Mad Season: River of deceit, and Above. Mad Season was a solo album of Layne, Mike McCready and others.

Everything after dirt then the unplugged album isn't very good IMO. They only made 1 more album before Layne died (self titled) and there are only 2 decent songs there IMO and no great ones. Layne locked himself in his place in Seattle and killed himself with heroin and cocaine. He couldn't kick and committed suicide by addiction. He was found because activity on his ATM card etc stopped, and someone was sent to check on him. He weighed 80lbs at autopsy. Sad story, but all the $ on Earth won't beat addiction for a man.

Seattle in the 90s was crazy. Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins etc. Then L.A. birthed Chili peppers, Rage, TOOL, Deftones... the 90s was a great time for music. For those who like rap it was also B.i.g...2pac, outkast, tribe, dre, snoop, bone thugs etc etc many many platinum albums there. No money in music like there was back then. Nobody sells a million albums anymore...

I can rant about Daft Punk all day. Completely underrated musicians. When they finally won a Grammy, I actually cheered like I would for our Vols.

Tool has been number one on my list of concerts for a long time. Just never worked out yet.

I never cared for Alice in Chains original stuff honestly. I love the acoustic stuff from them.
