Forward is easier, safer and faster. My safety is paramount. My kids are single digits and know that standing in front of a moving car is bad. Maybe the parents of these "protesters" should have taught them better

If you don't want to be hit by a vehicle it's prolly a bad idea to stand in the road. I know common sense is hard for some these days.

Who is making excuses? I assure you I have encountered large groups of people in a street at night, and been approached by one or more while my car was stopped. Circumstances are not always the same, obviously, but my first impulse was not to accelerate carelessly forward.

This particular incident, being discussed, I suggested that I might have done the same thing. Where's my mental gymnastics?

There would be some leeway if it was just me in the vehicle. If I had, say, my little niece and nephew with me (or anyone else I'd be in extra-protective mode over) it could potentially start looking like a scene from Deathrace 2000.

Kids in he mix, I would go any direction to safety. But, again, depends on what we are calling danger.

so lets get this right.

1. Why was the guy in the pickup there?
2. It's been suggested that he was fearful and that's why he ran over a motorcycle.
3. So we have an armed man in a pickup who is fearful of the situation around him.... What is he afraid of? It doesn't appear that anyone threatened him or detained him illegally. The simple explanation is that he went there looking for trouble.
Also, Campbell street is a side street, it's one of those streets you have to go looking for. Now if this had happened on Lombard Street it would be more questionable as that is a main route.

According to police, the driver drove through the group of protesters, NOT the protesters gathering around the vehicle. This was clearly a situation created by the driver.

Most of what causes the drivers to go forward is that the mob likes to break out the back glass or side glass .

Kids or not I'm going forward. Your choice to stand in front and try to block me is not my concern anymore. My point about kids is that we teach them at an early age that moving cars can hurt people. These idiots seem to have missed that memo. Maybe they should consult their parents when they get home

1. Driving on a road. That’s a normal behavior to people outside your dumb state

3. You are very ignorant of law. The people clearly committed at least three crimes including assault and unlawful imprisonment

Of course not.

However, carrying a weapon and going out looking for a confrontation is very questionable. Do you really think that if this driver had been supportive of the protesters that any issues would have come up? Answer, of course not. So that infers that he was there looking to stir things up and that make being armed a bit more of a problem.

Step 1. Actively make things in the black community worse.

Step 2. Blame conservatives or phantom "white supremacists" for keeping black people down when things get worse.

Outside of the white supremacists part, it's the same shtick they have played in these cities for 50 years. So I don't think it's anything new regarding 2A.

Defunding police and telling citizens to figure it out for themselves is a sure fire way to never get rid of 2A.

I don't know what your circumstances were in those incidents but I would be willing to be that for 99% of average citizens, if a large group of people started approaching their car while they were driving, they would view it as being threatening. I would never in a million years be out of my car in a street and approach someone else's car. That's a recipe for bad things to happen.
