I like this, a lot. This is huge for the development of this team and program. Like an entire extra offseason built in.

Should pay serious dividends.
We need it for certain guys especially like Crouch, the receivers, Joseph and Baron who we'll need to help rush the passer. Plus, Pruitt now gets 7 weeks to prepare for Florida.

Been on the phone a good bit this morning...

Lots of interesting talk/chatter out there if you will.

Certainly sounds like there's some real pushback with simply adding the next two cross divisional opponents so you might have a complete rework of the schedule. Remember the SEC said yesterday that they are keeping divisional play so finding an alleged competitive balance is no easy task. Sounds like hope is to have schedule announced next week at the latest. Going to be more discussion with the AD's regarding the schedule.

Crowd size is obviously a hot topic with decisions to have to be made. Some are suggesting that it might not be just a set percentage across the board. meaning is the percentage allowed in a skybox higher than percentage allowed in the general stands. I hadn't thought about it that way, but that's a discussion point schools individually are looking at.

Tailgating seems like it will be hard to pull off, but schools are all looking at possible plans. We will see.

I don't expect any time of immediate announcement on attendance policy from schools. Texas A&M is still talking about 50% attendance but that seems unrealistic. But is 35% realistic, too early to say. Everyone is watching case numbers.

What about the cancellation of non-conference games with smaller schools which are payday games for them. As someone told me a bit ago, "how is an SEC school going to cite a clause of natural causes to cancel a game contract but they are adding two SEC games to the schedule." Translation, sounds like schools like ETSU, Furman, Georgia State and others are going to fight for some money from the SEC schools for cancelling their game.

Finally, Ross Bjork, the AD at Texas A&M, who loves to do interviews said today that he expects the recruiting dead period to be extended and suggested that on-campus visits might not be allowed all fall.

I actually think this benefits teams with new coaches and coordinators (Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi schools) more than it benefits us. But thinking back at games where we had a long break beforehand, I'll take it.

He’s an additional football nugget. Jeremy Pruitt and Ashley Smith getting things going in the vfl program. Thursday Pruitt did a zoom with former players where players asked questions and there was discussion and talk back and forth. Not just Pruitt giving a state of a union but a discussion.

there was over a 100 former players on the zoom.

Dead period extensions and on-campus visits not being allowed has to help us. WE got our class minus a few finishing pieces.
Plus the fact that there’ll be some top flight recruits watching to see how we fare with this conference only season, helps us that the ones we’re really after se to have already made an in person visit.

I saw a comment in McGhee’s thread where a poster said we need top 250 guys, which I agree with, so I figured I’d check to see where we’re at. The SEC only permits a travel roster of 70 guys, 3 of which as a minimum we can figure are specialists. That leaves 67 guys.

On our roster this year, leaving aside JUCOs, we have 38 guys one or more of the services rated as top 300 guys, 12 top 50 guys, 8 more in the top 100, 12 more in the top 200, and 6 that make the top 300. We’ll lose some of those guys after this year but most are younger guys. As of right now we have 12 guys one or more of the services rate as top 300 guys committed for 2021, 3 top 50, 5 more in the top 100, and 2 each in the top 200 and top 300.

We’re having success recruiting guys who have a good shot at being immediate contributors but to stack the roster top to bottom with elite talent and thus depth we’re going to need to win something. If we hadn’t stumbled out of the gate last year we likely would have had a 10 win season. That’s winning something. We need to beat Florida this year and if given the opportunity we need to beat LSU in death valley. That would be winning something. Oklahoma would have given us another opportunity to win something this year.

There are very few teams that stack significant depth from the ranks of the top 300 players in recruiting classes each year, Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, etc. In order for us to reach that level of recruiting I think we probably have to win something. We will have our opportunities this year and I think we’re close enough to some of our elite opponents that we have a very good shot at winning something that people will talk about. After that we should have a bit more ease stacking talented depth. jmo.

247 considers Green, Arnold, and Ingram-Dawkins all to be top 100 prospects in the 2021 class and whether it’s some or all of these guys or some others Pruitt’s modus operandi has been to close strong when finishing out a recruiting class. At present it certainly looks to me like the 2021 class when finished may be considered by the public services to be Pruitt’s best class yet. I don't think there's many who don't believe Pruitt and Co. have been and are doing an exception job on the recruiting trail but to take that final step back into the upper ranks of the elite we're probably going to have to earn it on the field. We have to win something that matters and that people outside our fanbase will take notice of and as previously noted I think we have a great shot of doing that this year. jmo..
