-VQ.Tennessee has had plenty of freshmen showing out as team work continues with OTAs. Javontez Spraggins has dropped weight and looked good in early workouts. We continue to hear good things about the freshmen wide receivers with Jimmy Calloway having a nice week of work. The pushed back start date to the season gives all the freshmen extra work and more of a fighting chance to play early. With some players returning from missed time due to COVID, the Vols were back at ground zero this week in an effort to not have some of the younger players swimming in to deep of water.
The OTA’s have also been important for guys like Quavaris Crouch as he learns the ILB spot in more detail. Remember if things were normal he would have missed spring practice as would Jeremy Banks, but both are getting the OTA work now. So while that hands on field work with the coaches is big for the newcomers it’s also big for some returning guys who are moving into new positions or roles with the team.
-VQ.One bright spot though, according to what we’re hearing. And let me stress this is second hand as we obviously aren’t watching workouts, but the buzz is that the coaches really like what they’re seeing from grad transfer E.J. Anosike. His strength is off the charts and some feel like if he ends up as the starter in the event that Pons leaves that he would likely lead the team in rebounding.
-VQ.The wait continues for five star Kennedy Chandler to either make a surprise announcement. Chandler and his father have both insisted that they would like to wait and take official visits in the fall if they’re permissible. However, the buzz that the nation’s top point guard is ready to pop for Tennessee hasn’t exact died down completely.
No matter how you look at it, the feeling now seems to be that Tennessee is the clear-cut leader for the No. 10 ranked player in the Class of 2020.
This year is unprecedented. We think we know what we are getting but we really have no clue. I think our team is better than what we are getting credit for. But, everyone is gonna come out the gate out of sync. Might play in our favor.
We have 3 new coaches that weren’t here last year.
Go to your job, and pull half the stuff these athletes do. Tell me how long you last. Why are the rules different for them?
My first asian girlfriend always pounded that first maxim into my head. She would talk about her past, but always ended with her having no regrets. She was a very strong person and I respected that ideal. Beating yourself up over your past truly does no good. All ya can do is learn from it, develop better personal systems to avoid repeating mistakes, and move on.
