I get it. I guess my question is, at what level of risk to the general population, would a Gov mask mandate be reasonable?
I know hardliners might say, it's never reasonable, but I don't think that reflects reality.
It makes sense in a very strict sense for a world wide pandemic. For a very limited amount of time.
You would see a completely different reaction if the government was reasonable about this stuff, and acted like adults. People would be more likely to listen. Instead you have a bunch of children squabbling about this, with both sides flipping roles at least once, that has anyone paying attention not fully buying what the government is selling.
Like if from the start it was, "hey guys we need to do this for a month, from March 10th to April 10th, everyone wears a mask. That will let us flatten the curve and then we go back to normal." I think if that had been the situation you would see a much higher percentage of mask wearing at that time, with much less biching. At least I could buy that bs.
Instead what we have seen is the Dems started a fight with Trump doing something about the spread. And then when they looked dumb they doubled down. And once they doubled down Trump got dumb(er). And suddenly a health issue, became a political issue. See these posts in here about non-mask wearers being Trumpers. I just road MARTA here in Atlanta, if that was true Biden has no shot. So instead of being adults, it immediately turned into political childish insults. Which makes it difficult to take serious. So now you have the public who have seen both sides flip their arguments, watched the CDC and WHO flip their arguments, watched the message go from "flatten the curve" to "no deaths". So in the actual situation at hand you have people choosing not to wear masks just because they are over the BS. Nobody could stay on message, no one could deliver on actual dates, no one even knows what the goal is now. Heck Cuomo is being celebrated now after all that happened there.
It's not crazy to think that people are going to treat this differently than a "reasonable government mandate".
Throw in the backwards business closings with mom and pops shuttered while thousands are encouraged to go to Walmart. And it's hard to say we are seeing well thought out government guidelines.
