Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

It's looking more and more like many - if not most - school systems on the east and west coast will begin the school year via remote classes. Here in coastal NC, the school board just handed down that decision yesterday, and I know the two biggest systems in VA just flipped from a combo system to remote-only in the Fall. Ditto places even like Atlanta. And, of course, most of CA and the west coast is already doing this.

So, bottom line, it is what it is. Probably the smart thing to do.

If Trump withholds any Fed funds to the education system because of said decisions, he'd only shoot himself in the foot.

If the school systems that remain closed lay off bus drivers, janitors, maintenance people, cafeteria workers ext then funding should be adjusted accordingly.

If some of the states leadership won't mandate masks, in public, in general , I'm not sure how they can take a hard-line with the kids must return to school, rhetoric.

I think common sense lies with the combination of physical and virtual, and that will become the status quo.

I figure when it comes down to having a choice, the guinea pig kids will be a considerably lower number, where there is a choice.

I'm not certain, but I don't believe fed funds are used for such salaries. I think most funds go to disadvantaged students.

Lol. Yes. The many Trump cultists in California and Colorado who hang on his every word only got infected because Trump said things would be okay 😂

There probably about twice as many hard-core Trumpers in California than total voters in Tennessee, and Colorado still has some of the most conservative areas in the country, so your statement doesn't make much logical sense.

Where do you live, Bug Tussle? The Nashville area has lost about 15 restaurants and chains are beginning to close.

I agree with political motives being a problem. Trump's campaign of minimizing the disease for reelection purposes has nearly brought the country to its knees a second time.
Huh? What does that mean?

82 whole cases? I just locked my door

I live in a hotspot that has been in the news recently. I have heard of no issues with camps or childcare centers. My kids have been in a group of about 60 since April with zero issues. Many of these are kids of essential workers that have been on their jobs with no break.

Thankfully our school is starting on time also and my kids will be on the bus to get there

82 cases as a result of ONE camp. Over half of camps have cancelled with many other camps closing after they get a case.

Well good for you. At these camps, how many of the ones leading these are at risk?

If the at risk teachers start dying/become hospitalized or teachers are out sick due to the virus and there starts to strain schools due to a shortage of teachers, oh well. I guess they’ll switch to online learning then.

Doesn't matter. The closed schools can make up the withheld funds with the money saved from laying off all of those people.

On the local level nothing is more adept at wasting money than the school systems so they shouldn't have excess cash to waste by laying off people.

And the conservative areas are the ones being hit hardest, right?

It's a joke. I'm not going to do a demographic breakdown to prove something that's obvious to anyone with a brain: That Trump's offhand comments have **** all to do with virus outbreaks.

At risk people have the choice to protect themselves as they see fit. That's their personal responsibility

~70% of our school chose to return when given the option

That makes a more manageable population. I somehow doubt it will remain that high when the doors are opened.

We'll see how it goes down. Of course it will vary geographically. I just hope schools will have planned to be fluid with their options.

The doors open in 2 weeks and all selections have been made. This is in a county labeled as a hotspot in the national media. They'll be fine

His impotent and counterproductive leadership has a lot to do with America heading in the wrong direction.

We have a churlish toddler for a POTUS and the country is in shambles, but the response of said toddler and Cult 45 is to look for anyone else to blame for the stink but the guy with the giant boom boom leaking out of his pampers.

According to their website they have over 2000 staff in the summer and 26,000+ campers. Even if they had half that this year, 82 cases is half a percent. Based on that it would seem that a summer camp might actually be a safer place to be than wherever those people came from
