Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

They aren't going to acknowledge this. Doesn't work with their "school reopening with no problems" fantasyland.

First of all let's make clear, 1300 is total, since February. Secondly childcare is not where gov't should be increasing their efforts. They should be concentrating on the most vulnerable, nursing homes (like FL has done) . C19 is less dangerous than the flu for little kids

Looks like you are still deficient when it comes to understanding numbers. Schools need to open and they will. There will be more cases since that's just how it works. Hopefully our school officials are not so scared

No they don't. I don't remember it as a kid and my kids have never missed a day because of it

We had someone on the inside. Most of the time we knew it was close for school being called off if a few more kids were out across the county, so we would stay home the next day and sure enough school would be cancelled on Thursday & Friday(during flu season).

This only happened once maybe twice a year.

Schools close across Central Arkansas due to flu outbreak
Just google for more information. Just because you have never heard of such a thing doesn't mean it's not happened.
I've heard of it but never to this level. It had never threatened schools nationwide. A day or 2 is not months

Flu is also an illness we know is coming and have a vaccine for. Where are the stay at home and mask orders?

It's looking more and more like many - if not most - school systems on the east and west coast will begin the school year via remote classes. Here in coastal NC, the school board just handed down that decision yesterday, and I know the two biggest systems in VA just flipped from a combo system to remote-only in the Fall. Ditto places even like Atlanta. And, of course, most of CA and the west coast is already doing this.

So, bottom line, it is what it is. Probably the smart thing to do.

If Trump withholds any Fed funds to the education system because of said decisions, he'd only shoot himself in the foot.

Flu season doesn't start in August. Send your kids to private school if its that important to you.

Flu is more dangerous for kids thus this is a fair comparison:

Little Rock (KATV) — Within the last week, three more people have died in Arkansas because of the flu, including a child, raising the total number of deaths in the state to 36.

23 school districts were also briefly closed due to the flu this season. As of Monday, Cabot school district, Lonoke public schools and two schools in Little Rock were added to the list of flu-related closings across the state.

Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet and Rockefeller Elementary schools closed Tuesday through Wednesday. Cabot and Lonoke schools will be closed Thursday and Friday for a deep cleaning from one of the worst flu outbreaks officials say they've seen in years.

Note the word "briefly". They closed two days for a deep cleaning. If you need to do something like this for C19, knock yourself out...but you don't see schools announcing closures for January in November for flu outbreaks.

Yes, occasionally schools briefly close for flu but it's rare. I never got a day off school for flu outbreaks and it sounds like many here on VN haven't either

Thats fine, then if we're doing distance learning then we should lay off 75% of the teaching staff, cut all administration, cut all PE/ Art/ Music teachers, lay off all library workers and cut taxes. It's simple really, if teachers don't want to go back to work then you don't get paid, everyone else is working. So yeah, no school then cut my taxes and lay some people off I'm cool with it

70% of parents are at whits end or can't afford a babysitter.
Sure so lets up your income to 50% and pay for child care for everyone, wait maybe we can do something like get some kind of public system together, where people teach children. Yeah maybe we can even use tax money to pay for it, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
