My Father-in-law lost his battle. He went peacefully with loved ones in attendance. I believe that he is in a better place. No longer hurting snd able to walk again. As gruff as he could be, he will still be missed.
My all time favorite experience with him:
My in-laws came to visit in the Fall, shortly after we moved to Knoxville. He and I went to play golf. It sprinkled on us through the first 15 holes. It started raining harder on the 16th hole. Players were leaving the course. He asked if I wanted to finish the round, of course I did (no lightning). It was raining so hard by the 18th hole that we could barely see the golf balls. We finished and were totally soaked.
We get back to my house, get showered and dry. Then my wife asks if I still plan to go to Neyland to the football game? I say of course, Tennessee is going to beat Georgia. Wouldn’t miss it. She looks to her Dad. His response was what the hell, why not! I gave hime an Orange and White poncho that was really long (I am 6’ tall) it barely passed his knees at 6’7”.
We stayed for the whole game. Tennessee crushed Georgia 38-13 before 106K screaming Volunteers.
He told the story of that day repeatedly over the years. He always ended it with the statement: “The driest that I was that day was while I was taking a shower!” Then he and I would laugh because that was true.
I will miss Big Jim.
Thank y’all very much for your prayers.

Rumor has it...UGA edition...That James Williams, Mims and Vandagriff talked Miami over the weekend and making their own legacy there.
This is coming from my friend from American Heritage who told me we had started talking to Williams and Georgia was out (if you remember that post).
Mine sounds like something out an episode of Jerry Springer. At 13. I answered the phone on the other end was a Scottish voice asking to speak with my dad. When I told my dad his face was of pure terror. He told me that was my sister who was 18, he had her while he was in the army and just left her over there and had never contacted her. Then he convinces her and her mom to come over here to visit without my mom knowing and has an affair with my sister's mom. Leaves my mom, me and 2 younger brothers to fend for ourselves. Didn’t pay child support or call, either did any in his family. He has very little to do with us now but every now and then he will fly over to visit friends and then comes around acting like he’s dad of the year. Swore I’d never treat my wife or kids like that, I haven’t and won’t.Yessir. My parents divorced at age 6. Thought it was my fault until I was in my 40s. My family sucked at communicating. My Dad died at age 63 from lung cancer. I saw him an average of once per year from age 6-16.
I swore that if I ever had kids that I would be there for everything that they did. My wife and I attend everything and participate as much as possible. My kids are also 15 &18.
Going into the Weatherd interview, I was a student when this stuff went down. Knew Nigel gave Shy the business, and was personally aware of the abuse Daniel Helm was getting. He was the highest quality young man you could meet. Tim Tebow (but screw Florida) type of personality. Butch constantly berated him and it got worse after Helm met with Butch about how Butch was acting. Butch the recruiter was not Butch the coach. Acted like Dabo in the home and drunken sailor around the team. Bullied and verbally abused multiple players and Helm left. He was far more talented than Wolf.
At the same time, I'm not sure what I think about Weatherd. He's tweeted multiple times about wanting someone to pay him or give him a mic to talk about this, and his shortcomings were his own fault for not dedicating himself to being successful. He went on a Twitter spree during halftime of a game at least once, liking hundreds of tweets about Colton Jumper after Jumper got the start over him and made some mistakes.
Alvin is kind of a diva in that he has an eccentric personality. That is known. He's also super dedicated and probably didnt bother with Weatherd because Weatherd obviously wasn't trying to succeed. I also don't think Alvin loves UT. Alvin came to UT because it was a good opportunity for him to take the next step to the NFL, he worked hard, dealt with the BS, then got paid. But also, I don't know of a single student who was at UT at the time that doesn't love Alvin. The dude was just cool, and I never got the vibe that he thought himself better than anyone else.
